Trying to decide if it's worth it for us to buy the DDE with the AP....

We're going in March and have leftover PH passes our girls can use. I was thinking of buying both my husband and myself the new 10 day Magic Your Way with no expiration.....

However, now with this new Dining card I'm a little unsure. We will probably go to the park 4-6 days depending on our moods (DVC has changed our touring view, don't have to do it all as we know we'll be back!). I know we'll spend 50-150 day on food.

I was thinking of buying one of us the AP with the Dining card. However, we're not sure if we'll return next year so trying to weigh if the AP is worth it or just get the Magic Your Way as we would still have 4-6 days left on it when we do return.....

I know we'd use some of the AP perks like half price golf and the savings with the Dining Card would be great as it's for all of the restaurants we like ... but is it worth the trade off of the extra days in the park if we don't return for another couple of years? Anyone else with this dilemma?

Guess you'll just have to do the math, LOL!

For example, if you spend $50/day on food for 6 days, that's $300. If you spend all of it at a DDE location, you would save $60 if you had the card. That is $10 over the $50 cost of the card.

If you actually spend $150/day for 6 days, that would be $900 spent on food. With the DDE card, you'd save $180 or $130 more than the cost of the card. I'm sure the $130 would cover the "extra" cost of the AP over the MYW ticket.

So in the end, it's going to depend on how much you spend at the DDE locations and how much use you'd get out of the discounts for the Adult AP. My advice is to only count the things you'd do even without the discount. Keep in mind, that once you have the AP & DDE discounts, you'll be tempted to spend on things you might not have if you didn't have the discount cards. :)

IMHO, it's probably worth it. If you can return before the year is up, it will definitely be worth it. If you time it right, you'll have two trips worth of admission on the AP and 2 trips worth of discounts on eating. This is how we use our DVC membership. Our next two trips will be either 50 or 51 weeks apart. Then the next one will be about 53 weeks from the last one and we'll start over. (We like to go in early December).

HTH a little - but you really do have to do the math yourself.

Best wishes -

I've had the card for a couple of years and find that we go to eat at places that we would not have thought about before. You only have to spend $250 to break even.If you spend $100 on a meal and get the discount and leave a tip you are still under the $100.

This is exactly what we do to get our moneys worth out of an AP and exactly what we will do with the DDE. That means we will need to spend 125 on restaurants during each visit. Very easy with a family of 4.
