Trouble, Delay Returning A Rental Car?

With the next holiday peak travel season coming, time to do a heads up on car rental hassles when you return the car. May save some folks anxiety about missing their plane.

There was a big rant recently about one car rental agency mainly having to do with long waits to get the car. Other rental agencies have had their share of that kind of complaint.

But I don't think anyone organized a thread about car rental gripes at return time. Anyone want to add their two cents' worth?

Actually some 20 years ago I complained to a car rental agency (not at MCO, not a name brand) that tried to charge me for more gas than the car had when I checked it out. They eventually gave in and took off the charge.

UGH! You hit a sore spot with me!

When we were in Orlando last week, we rented a car from National. Well, the pick up was very easy - just go pick the car you want. But, the return was a nightmare!

We drove into the garage and parked the car in a long line of cars being returned. The girl doing the returning was only 3 cars ahead of us, so we figured it would not take more that a couple of minutes. WRONG! Everything went fairly quickly until she got to the car in front of us. The guy 'remembers' he can get an additional discount with some sort of card he had - which then took him about 5 minutes to find in his wallet. So, the original receipt he had was no longer valid and he wanted a new one. He wants to give the girl his fax # so she can just fax a receipt when there is time, so he proceeds to dig thru his suitcases to find his briefcase to get out a business card. Another 5 minutes. After all the fuss with this guy, she took about 20 minutes with him! Meanwhile, a second line of cars had started forming and that line had a guy doing the check-ins. He whizzed down the line and past our point - that's when we started getting angry! We had a flight to catch too!

All in all, it took us about 30 minutes to do the return! VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
