So we leave for The World in 7 days and there is a tropical storm heading for the Gulf! :scared1: What do I need to know to prepare? We are flying.

Anyone else worried about this?

First of all go to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ which is the National Hurricane Center.

The two graphics you will be most interested in are the Five Day Track Cone and the Tropical Storm Windspeed Projections.

At this time the NHC does not expect Ida to get to Hurricane Strength; the closest it seems projected to the Florida Coast is about 150 miles west of Tampa, and Orlando is at the border between the 5% to 10% and the 10% to 20% probability bands.

I live here and am not worried (but I do check the NHC at least twice a day routinely).

OP, we live near the Gulf too and we're not terribly concerned. The water in the gulf is probably too cool by this time of year to produce much of a storm. It could still bring in a good bit of rain, tho, so you might want to make sure you're well equipped with rain gear.

Meteorologist, Tom Terry, who I trust above all others, said that the most we will see is a little wind (gusts of 30 to 40 mph) and some rain. We really need the rain. I wouldn't worry about it. It won't be all day non-stop rain. He did say we could end up in some tornado watches as the storm draws nearer because we will be on the northeast side of the disturbance. The closest it should come to Florida is about 200 miles off the coast.

Thanks for your replies! I guess I was surprised when it flased across the fox news thing. I watched some weather channel and with your wonderful responses I fell better! :goodvibes
