I don't know if this has been reported in America, but it's important nonetheless.
Yesterday two British supposedly undercover Special Air Service (SAS) agents were captured by Iraqi police after (reportedly) a firefight. They were then handed over to a militia group. Iraq's interior ministry ordered the police force in Basra to release the soldiers but that order was ignored.
They were freed yesterday after British troops stormed the jail and a house, flattening a large chunk of it with tanks.
al-Jazeera news channel footage, purportedly of the equipment carried in the men's car, showed assault rifles, a light machine gun, an anti-tank weapon, radio gear and medical kit.
This is thought to be standard kit for the SAS operating in such a theatre of operations.
Meanwhile, Iraqi citizens set two British tanks alight whilst chanting "murderers out!", badly burning some servicemen in the process. Some Iraqis died from gunshot wounds.
Commentary: both the Conservative and Liberal Democrat political parties have accused Labour (the current socialist Government) of uncertainty in a situation that is "sliding" towards all out civil war. New thought tends towards that of an earlier withdrawal since the troop presence seems to be aggravating terrorist and militia attacks.
A phased withdrawal of troops is rumoured to be in process as of next month.
