can someone recommend a tripod to me that I could buy online?? I would like to bring it to Disneyland in June with me so I need something compact!!

Thanks everyone!!

Velbon's Maxi 347 GB works well for me. It is on the small/kight end of the sacle and is not the most sturdy or steady of tripods.
However, it has been field tested to be sure it fits in Disney's lockers!

We really need a "sticky" for tripod recommendations!

You might also consider a monopod which takes up less room and may be less apt to get tipped over in crowds.

BobQuincy,
I agree that there are some things that feel like they deserve a sticky post and I am happy to oblige. We just need to be careful so we don't get too many sticky posts as it moves the normal content farther and farther down the page. Maybe what we need is a sticky that points to discussions and threads on various subjects. For example, one sticky could refer users to threads that discuss tripods, bags, point & shoot recommendations, SLR recommendations. The individual threads could then ebb and flow but there would be a central place to find the threads without traversing through several pages of posts.

That sounds like a good idea, maybe a sticky called "equipment recommendations"! Then I wouldn't have to type so much and risk making so many typos! ;)

great idea!

AZ JazzyJ, since I've been a regular on this forum (for, oh, probably 8-9 months now), we've talked several times about exactly what you mention there - a sticky pointing to "significant" threads. How do we actually make this happen? Will you start a sticky thread and we can reply with threads that we feel should be in there? (I've linked to a SpectroMagic one several times recently, for example.) Should one of us start it and then you'll sticky it? Obviously, whoever starts it "owns" it and is in charge of adding new threads.

This is something that would be a real help for everyone, especially considering the state of the "search" functionality.

My apologies to Kim for hijacking this thread.

I've added a sticky post to the top of the board where we can add links to threads discussing various recommendations to types of equipment.

Jeff
