My baby sister just found out she is expecting triplets. She wasn't even trying to get pregnant. She was on the pill but had missed a couple. Does anyone know of any help available. It is very scary and exciting at the same time. My sister is overwhelmed and any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marla:dance3:

Have her try to find a club for mothers of multiples in her area. They are a wealth of information, support and sometimes you can even find sales through them for baby stuff, clothes etc. It can be exhausting, overwhelming but in the end it is such a wonderful experience. I have twins and 2 more children (all within 2-1/2 years). Hope you live near her so you can be helpful and supportive!:dance3:

DD11's best friend is a triplet. I will ask her mother if she can think of anything and pm you later. Tell your sis to join a mulitples group.

Congratulations to her and to you! Most of my family has twins in it and each have a multiple support group they belong to like the previous poster mentioned and they have found lots of support, friendships and advice. They actually hold this huge childrens sale each year where there are some serious deals to be had which also helps tremdously when shopping for more than one at a time.

Check with the formula companies, Ross for Similac and Mead Johnson for Enfamil. They often offer some formula for multiples.

I have an old family friend that had the same thing happen (well, I don't know about the hormonal BC pill). She found out that it's a ridiculously small chance of that happening... Ended up being identical girls. My friend had asked for donor b'milk from me while she was pregnant, and I started pumping for her, but she never followed up and I don't know what she ended up doing. I loved that she was asking for the milk, though! Since my mom had nursed her and her brother at various times, it would have been a really neat circle of life thing.

I don't know what her household income is, but have her look into WIC. It could really help out with the grocery bill if she qualifies.

Congratulations to your sister and to you, dear Auntie!

Have her find her local Mothers of Multiples club. They will be her best friend and give her lots of support. Our local club has yard sales twice a year, one in spring and fall. They are great for buying equipment, bedding, clothes, etc....

Tripletconnection.com and mostonline.org (mothers of supertwins) are great websites. MOST use to have a list of companies that provided free stuff, but with such an increase in multiple births over the last decade, I don't think that companies can keep up.

Oh and if you live nearby she will need you and your help. I had no help with mine, but we survived and so will she. If you need to ask specific questions please pm me and I will help! :dance3: Oh and by the way, three times the love is the best thing in the world. :dance3:

Thank you to everyone for all the suggestions. We really appreciate it and it gives us a starting place. It is exciting and I can't wait to love them. My prayer is that all the babies will be healthy and that my sister will have no complications.

Also have her sign up at diaper websites. I'm not sure why, but I get samples quite often of Huggies and my youngest is 15yo. They also sent 2 large canisters of formula.

I am a mom of 7 year old triplets one girl, two boys and their big brother is eleven.

My suggestions for her are to find a perinatologist. This is a doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancies. She needs to have a peri. An ob who says they have experience delivery twins is not good enough. A triplet pregnancy needs more specialized care. She also needs to find a hospital to deliver at that her peri is associated with that has a least a level 3 or higher NICU.

The average triplet pregnancy is 32 weeks. Many more go further and a lot of people deliver a lot earlier. She needs to make sure to check on all of her health insurance coverages so she does not have any unexpected huge hospital bills. In PA where we live income does not come into play when you have a baby that is at a certain weight when born premature or with certain health issues, so she may in the future need to look into her state's medicaid type of program to cover any additional expenses that her primary insurance does not cover.

On tripletconnection.org there is a wealth of information about busineses that will send coupons to families with triplets or more for free diapers, formula etc. Also triplet strollers, have her check this website.

Hi Chrissy, fellow triplet mom just saying hi.

I am the mom of b/b twin five year olds. A friend (triplet mom) advised me to have my ducks in a row by 28 weeks. I am glad I did, as I was put on bedrest at 28w2d.

1. Definately get a referral or make an appointment with a perinatologist. Multiple pregnancies have a lot of issues and a peri has the additional training to deal with them. My peri and OB worked together. The peri monitored the babies, the OB monitored me. I was able to go 34 weeks despite lots of complications because of the excellent prenatal care I received.

2. If she wants to participate in decorating the nursery, buying clothes, attending showers, etc, get it all done by 28 weeks (maybe even 26 with triplets)

3. Organize. Assign each baby a color. It makes it so much easier to tell burp cloths and bottles apart. One of my sons was assigned red the other blue. I even dressed them accordingly for the first year or so, and it was easier for everyone to tell them apart once they knew Twin A was red, Twin B was blue. I also kept charts on when each twin ate, how much, meds given, diapers, etc. I had a lot of helpers, and this way nobody missed a feeding or was medicated twice.

4. Ask for help. I did hire someone to come in and clean at 20 weeks as I was too big to do anything at that point. That in itself was a big help. My mother also came and spent weekends with us once the twins were born so that my husband and I could get a good night's sleep two nights per week. BEST GIFT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Read Dr. Luke's book "When You are Having Twins, Triplets or More". Excellent advice, especially the diet section. You have to eat a lot early on, even when you don't want to.

6. Rest and get off her feet as soon as she can every day.

7. Keep a journal!

Definitely make sure she contacts companies to see who runs programs for multiples. A mom on one baby board I was on had twins - she was given free formula by the case. She had so much she could feed both of her babies and still give it away to a few people she knew who had trouble affording it. She was getting diapers the same way.

I don't think that is typical, but she said all she did was contact manufacturers and they kept sending her free stuff and coupons for more free stuff.

Two married DISers had triplets last year and they have a blog - http://threeatonce.blogspot.com/. Those babies are soooooooo cute and Lease (the mom) did/does amazingly well (from an observer's perspective). :goodvibes

They also have a trip report called "How one became three (trips)" or something like that where Code chronicles Lease's pregnancy. Amazing stuff! I'm fuzzy on the details but I think they came home from WDW with 3 souvenirs, totally unexpected.
