Triple D's,

We had a wonderful year last year. As a team, we were able to report in over 18,000 miles. 2nd in the team competition. (I demand a recount!!!:lmao: ) Now, though, it is time to move on to a new year with new goals. I have asked a time or two who all wants to continue on this journey of ours that we have started and I have gotten some good response but I haven't heard from everyone yet so I thought this would be as good a way as any.

The following team members have said that they are going to continue with the Triple D's.

Bubba73 (Bryan)
Ironz (Betsy)
KiraG (Kira)
Twotoohappy (Liz)
Ahoff (Augie)
SamSam (Sam)
TnTsParty (Tricia)
GoofyGuy1958 (Mike)
HeyMickey (Erica)
Big Vic (Vic)

If there is anyone else that I have missed, please forgive me but let me know. This is going to be a fantastic year for the Triple D's. I know I am going to make a vow to put my heart and soul into being bigger, faster and stronger for next year's Marathon Weekend. Who else is in??

Thanks for everything! All of you are awesome and as I have said before, I feel blessed to be able to call you my friends!!

Bryan

Wahoo! I'm ready for a new year with the fantastic Triple D's.

Bryan,

I did reply that I would like to continue and, even after the 11 mile cramp fest at the end of the Goofy, remain committed (or should I say should be committed?). When are we starting our mileage tracking - bcause I have a lot of miles if we get double for races (like 88.6 -double miles for the Goofy -running miles in 7 hours and 32 minutes)

Mike "GG" B

Mike,

I'm sorry that I left you off the list. That was purely unintentional. I will add you to the list right now.

Congratulations om being able to finish the Goofy. That is more than I know I can handle personally but I have all the respect in the world for someone who can.

There are several teams that are monitoring their miles and hours already. For the time being, hold on to them so I can make sure what is going on with the spreadsheet. I haven't seen anything yet when looking at it for the new year. But as soon as I do and know what's going on, I will let everyone know.

Thanks and Great Job!!!
Bryan:thumbsup2

Bryan, I'm also keeping track of miles/hours for this month just in case we will use them.
Glad to see so many team members staying!

No worries Byran, I figured you simply didn't see my post - there are a lot to go through on the other thread. Thanks for doing this and thanks for the congrats on finishing the Goofy. I was not pleased with the full finish time but running/cramping/walking/running/cramping/walking does slow one down (took me like 1:17 for the final 6.2 miles) - was hoping for a sub 4 but will settle for the 4:26 I ended up with. Overall Goofy finish time was 6:22 which was not the 6 flat I was looking for but considering the amount of cramping I experienced was good.

I'm in!!!

Goals for this year:

Shoulder rehab. Of course.

Have already signed up for 2 sprint triathlons and a 1/2 Ironman. Will find more based on what my shoulder does.

Goofy 2010.

Get faster running.

maybe a bike trip this summer.

Beat the Rabbits. haha!! Ok...just kidding....or not!? ;)

I'm in too!

I posted on the other DDD link about having some major
surgery done on 1/29 so won't have any miles for Feb.
(1 week in hospital and 3-4 wks recovery uggghh! )
But I promise to make it up over the year!

My goals:
recovery, regain physical fitness level, more to come

Is it time to start hunting rabbits?????

Well, call me crazy but it sounds like we have a very strong and dedicated team already. If we can stay healthy (or get healed up as the case may be), we will be tough to beat. Even if we don't win, I think we are going to have a lot of fun, give it all that we have got and support each other 110%!!

Liz I know about your surgery coming up. Take all of the time that you need to heal afterwards. Even if we don't have you for a month or more, that's fine. I want to make sure that you are healthy enough to run with me again next year for the Half. (Is Susan still going to join up? Tell her little brother Bryan said Hey!)

MikeThe fact that you did 39.3 miles in 6 hours 26 minutes, I have to say that I am flabbergasted. I might be able to do the full in that time and that would be it. (I don't have that kind of endurance training as of yet.) I know others may have finished faster but I am still very impressed. Just wish I would have been able to meet you while down there. I tried to say hey to all of our teammates that I could. Hopefully next year!!

Betsy As an athlete, trainer and someone in the medical profession, I am going to tell you something that you already know but will always have a tendency to forget. Don't push yourself to soon! We want you to achieve everything on your list but most of all we want you to be healthy, happy and careful! I know we would all love for you to come down next year to be able to spend some time with us. (You could show us around since you have done so many races.)

SamSam You are so awesome! You have already signed up for next year's races, you are putting in the miles and hours now and getting yourself prepared for what will be a great party. Keep it up and you will beat us all!!

Let's go team!! Let's show these boards what the Triple D's are all about!!!

Bryan:cheer2: :cheer2: :yay:

Just wanted to bump this one back up to see if there are any others from the old team that would like to continue?

Bryan

I am here and ready to start my training (well I have to jump on training for the Princess half) I am already starting to miss running!! LOL Never thought I would say that. I was just taking a little time off to "recover" from the marathon. The legs are about back to feeling normal. I have a 10 miler scheduled for tomorrow but I probably will only do a 5 miler (if even that much - lol) Then its back on the training wagon so I am trained up for the Princess - yikes I can't believe its in like 7 weeks!!!

Trica, DO NOT DO 10 miles tomorrow after running a marathon on Sunday. 5 miles easy would be fine but build back slowly and pay special attention to what your body is telling you for the first week or two - that means, listen if you feel any sharp or really unusual pains. After 21 years of running and countless injuries (most because I didn't listen) I do know what I speak of. Good luck in the Princess.

Mike "GG" B

Tricia...I agree with Mike. You do need to recover a little bit from your efforts last weekend. You won't "de-train" in the next couple of weeks. In fact, if you get some good recovery now, you'll be able to re-build and have a great Princess 1/2!

The marathon you just ran still counts as part of your training load....I think people (myself included) tend to forget that. So think of the good base you already have!

Thanks Betsy and Mike - I definately was not planning on doing 10 miles tomorrow. I probably will end up only doing 3 or 4 and not even get 5 miles in. I am defiantely NOT getting up early.

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been posting here. It's been a crazy week of trying to get back in the groove of things, and really wishing I didn't have to! Marathon Weekend was so awesome, and I really appreciated all the support I've gotten here for the past year. Bryan - I'm so glad you took the time to find me at the meet. Great job on your first half!

I've been struggling a bit trying to figure out what my goals are for this year. When I took on running one year ago, I was really taking on something completely new for me. For the first time in my life, I took on being an athlete, and it has been an amazing journey.

If I hadn't unexpectedly gotten pregnant, I'm pretty sure I would be aiming for "farther and faster" now - it's just in my nature. I think I would probably go for the full marathon next year, and be working on a PR in a couple of halfs between now and then. But since that's not going to be the journey of 2009, I've felt a little bit unsure about what to aim for.

So I think this year is going to be all about health. I'm probably in better shape now than I've been since my early twenties, when I used to bike back and forth to graduate school each day. I want to keep running, at least as long as I can do it comfortably and safely (and if I follow Jen in GA's lead, I can do it for quite a while!). I will be much slower than I've been, and won't be going for the long distances. I am thinking about doing the Broad Street Run in early May, which is 10 miles, and I have my eye on a couple of 5Ks, but nothing more than that.

Where I want to expand is in my cross-training, and in my nutrition. I successfully avoided cross-training most of last year, and I am very interested in what I could gain from it. In particular, I want to find a pre-natal yoga class (I did some yoga before my other births, and it helped a lot), and do some biking as well. And while I eat in a pretty healthy way, I am interested in getting more vegetables and healthy grains in our daily diet here. I'd like to get more creative with food in general. Since I am making meals for 6 people a day, including 4 somewhat picky kids, I can easily get into a rut with food, and then it is way more tempting to eat junk!

I was really uncertain about signing up for the half again next year. Not so much because of the baby, but because I am hoping to take the whole family to Jamaica between Christmas and New Year's, and I'm not sure if we can get away again so soon afterwards! But if it looks financially doable, I think I'm going to go for it. I'm not sure I can stay away! We may make it a shorter trip, but I really don't want to miss it.

So count me in - it will be a different kind of journey this year, but one that will prepare me for whatever is next!

Kira, the pleasure was all mine. I know you was looking for your husband when I introduced myself but I felt like you were very gracious. I was also a little hurt that you had beaten me so badly:lmao: . Congratulations on the pregnancy. 4 kids already and this one will be #5. I have 2 and worried about them all day every day. I can't imagine having that many kids. I have to be honest. That just made it where I respect you that much more.

I have reached out and talked with Dave a little and have found out that the decision on what the teams are actually going to do this year has not been decided. He has assured me that as soon as he finds out (He has to talk it over with one of the moderators.) he will let us know. I also have talked with a couple of team members from other teams. There is already some "smack" talking going on saying how they are going to beat the Duckies!!! Now, there is no way that we can allow that to happen so as much as we can, let's use this as fuel for the fire. I know at times it can be very hard to stay motivated but we have some teams that finished very close to us and they are going to be trying to gun as down and knock us out early.

Let's go team. Let's get out there and rock it to the best of our ability.

Thanks everyone!
Bryan

Hey guys . . . it's me, the slacker extraordinaire. I totally dropped the ball somewhere last spring, and am thoroughly disappointed in myself. I just got back from marathon weekend and felt totally disconnected due to my lack of W.I.S.H. time this fall. So, with the renewed gusto that follows that invariably follows the completion of a race, i am humbly requesting to re-enlist and promise to be a better WISHer and Triple D this year.

If allowed back, i promise to contribute a significant amount of mileage and help kick that rabbit butt out of first place! My goal this year is to do the new york Roadrunners 9+1 program to qualify for the 2010 NYC marathon. It requires you to run 9 qualifying races in 2009 (plus volunteer at 1 event), so that's a bunch of half marathons for me for the year. Plus, in a fit of post-race delirium, I signed up to do the Goofy next year (kinda hoping there's a special 5th year medal, but not counting on it).

So, I am thinking i really need my support group to keep me going. Please? pretty please? pretty please with some sports beans on top??

Erica

Hey Mickey As we are in a time right now trying to find out what we are going to be doing with the teams, I can tell you that of course, you are more than welcomed to come back to the team. We are kind of in the middle of trying to find a good IT guy and "manager" to operate the teams. As soon as something is finalized, I will come back on here and make some sort of an announcement as to what is going on.

With that being said, we are all a team!! Whether or not we are doing this for a competition or not, it really doesn't matter. We have made some great relationships here. So we can keep those going and keep encouraging each other throughout the year anyway. We can talk about all of our successes and failures. That's what a team does. So even if they do decide to not have a competition, I still love this idea and would love to still have our team. Both the WISH team, which is everyone, and The Triple D's!

Hope everyone has a great night!
Bryan:thumbsup2 :grouphug:

I'm also keeping track of all my minutes/miles, so if we start from the first of January....I'm prepared. :rotfl:
Seriously, I really hope that the teams continue. For me, being a part of this team has really helped me do the miles I need to do. The need to be 'accountable' really helps me get out on the days when I really don't feel like working out.
