Trip with just your child

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this (I posted on the trip planning board also), but how many of you have just gone with a child to DW? I've always gone with the family, but it may just be my son(6) and I for this trip.....

Anyone have any personal experience with this type of trip? Do the kids get 'bored' since it's just you and them? Am I going to want to rip my eyes out because it's just me and him? LOL.

2005 DS (then 13) and I spent 2 wks at WDW. Ya we had our moments but overall it was fun
2006 DS (then 14) and I spent 2 wks at WDW. DH joined us the 2nd wk. Our late afternoons/nights were spent doing what we each preferred.
2007 DS (will be 15) and I are spending 1 wk at WDW. We're starting off our days together but Im sure they'll end up separated.

DS (then 7) and I went last year, just the two of us and had the best time ever! I really just followed his whim -- want to sleep in and then spend the morning playing together in the waterfall at the Swan? Sure!! Want to get up early to see the Muppets and ride RnR a couple of times? Sure!!! Want to go to the wave pool at TL for hours? Sure!!! On the last day we both got "tattoos" to remember our trip by (yes, I went to my job with Goofy on my arm and got laughed at)

It was entirely different from our first trip, the year before, when we went with friends, and kept to a preplanned schedule -- and, frankly, so much better!

It was so nice to have a week straight with just him, no playdates, or afterschool activities or work committments. I miss those days when he was little!

I say go for it -- you won't regret it.

yes, that is how I was looking at it also...........it will be nice to plan a day with the only deciding factor being do we want to ride TOT or do we want to ride Test Track.........

He needs a break himself from all his sports practices, so that will be nice too.

I have taken a few trips with just my DS (8yo), and let me tell you they were the best trips! We usually go with friends or family and it can get overwhelming. As the others have said, we do whatever we want, whenever we want! If he wants to ride tomorrowland speedway 3 times is a row, we do it! We just go with the flow. I do make 2 or 3 ADRs that we pick together and then we decided the morning of, if we want to do them or not and then cancel if we feel like doing something else. On our first mom & son trip I did make the mistake of telling him that this trip was "his" trip and we would do whatever he wanted. Well, whenever I made a suggestion and he didn't like it, I would get "isn't this my trip?" So now we pick a couple things we each like to do and go with that.

I say go for it. You will have a great time.

We're doing a trip like that next week! My son is 6 and he loves WDW so we are taking a Spring Break trip all for him! We're going to do all the "kid stuff" at Epcot, ride anything he wants, eat wherever he wants, it's going to be a blast!

DS10 and I have been on two "Mom/Son" trips. The first one was in May 2005 and happened to fall during Mother's Day weekend. DH had to cancel out at the last minute b/c work commitments. The last trip was just this past January. DH couldn't make that trip either, so we decided on a twosome again. We had an absolute blast. We sure missed DH/Dad, but managed to have a great time just the two of us. We still laugh over things that happened and that we saw/did.

I love being alone w/DS, so it was nice to have him in WDW just the two of us. He was so good at making sure we did things that I wanted to do, too.

Don't worry about him being bored or vice-versa ... you will both have a great time! It was so nice to just be one-on-one w/my child, to bond and make memories of our own. And, it's great to bring up things from our trip and just laugh!

I plan on taking my niece to Disney often when she gets a little older. She's almost 4 now. I'm thinking when she's 7-8 that it would be a good age. For right now, I take her on little day trips to the zoo, aquarium, etc. to get us both ready.

Once a few years ago I got a rate of $20/night at a DTD hotel-I think it was Courtyard Marriott-it is now in renovations I think to become a Holiday Inn.
Anyway, I took my 2 sons who were 7 and 8 at the time. We left DS who was 5 at home. I swore them to secrecy and I think they have not said anything to her. (She went on many tripw w/ just me to visit my mom in W.Plam Bch fla) .

Anyway, we had the best time. As others said we could do what we wanted and when. They were easy going as was I so it was very stress free and fun!

Sometimes we will talk about it and say" Remeber when we went on the..." and then my DD will say I don't remeber that! Oops!

I think you will be fine, I have done Disney with DS twice and Aruba countless times, and I enjoy each and every trip.. It can get demanding at times when you are alone because it's not like at home when you can walk away , you have to deal. But those moments are so rare it shouldn't turn you off.. And, I am a worry wort so I tend to overthink... My son is a 11 and I still make him lock himself in the stall next to me when I go potty

My now 4 yo DS and I went to WDW last September when he was 3.5, and had a great time. (I've been divorced since he was little, but this was the first vacation we have taken that wasn't a car ride.) He was too short to ride on any of the big rides (and he still doesn't top 40 inches, the little munchkin!), but that didn't matter to him. We found something fun to do wherever we went, whether it was riding Barnstormer 5 times in a row (groan!!!) or staring in wonder at Expedition Everest, or watching the movie at Maelstrom when the theater was almost empty. We also saw all of the nighttime parades and fireworks, which I wasn't sure he would do (sitting for an hour to get a good spot, not so easy for my little guy.)

My DS is a very happy kid--he finds joy and happiness just about everywhere, and our WDW vacation was no exception. We may not have ridden a single Mountain, but the trip as a whole was full of "mommy and me" type memories that I will cherish for a very long time.

In August 2005 dd9 (at the time)and myself went to WDW alone . We had been before with the whole family including my 2 sons and husband...but on this vacation we had such a great time !
We were on our own schedule,no arguing with siblings and we just basically did what "we" wanted to do (like riding Splash Mountain 3x in a row during the fireworks)!!!! We slept and ate and went to the parks when we wanted to ! My husband and DS's 18 and 22 have no desire to go to WDW again.
We had a blast and we are now booked for this August 2007...can't wait ....I'd love to go every 2 years if the finances hold out .
Go and enjoy yourself with your Ds....you'll have great memories and a relaxing vacation !

I noticed you said you left your 5yr old at home the one time you went...
