Iam researching Disney or a Tour Company. I looking for some information past members that did both. I looking at Perillo Tours. Looking at a two week stay.

Families experience with Perillo to Italy was amazing trip. They have done it more than once, one north one south.

I am pretty excited and after spending almost 22 days at Disney 2010, glad to be going overseas...I think we'll all love the change and experience! popcorn:: Every time I think Disney and Europe I cringe :rotfl2: I think I am ready for a "break" from Disney :rotfl2: too funny...my dh would be SHocked!

Are you sure that you want a group tour? Italy is easy to get around on your own. Pick up one of the Rick Steves' books. You will learn so much more on your own.

I'm sure you can do Italy on your own relatively easy, but if your not used to Europe, it can be a little intimidating your first time to a foreign country. I went on the Viva Italia trip in May and even though it was a group tour, most of the time I felt it was a private tour (just the feeling I had). Some of the advantages of the tour are that you get to do all of the main attractions without all the planning, traveling worries to/from each location, waiting in long, long, long lines to get into the attractions (we were in/out of the Colosseum and Vatican before those that we passed in line even got in). With the Viva Italia trip, you can get a lot more done in one day than you can on your own. You also have a lot of free time to do things on your own in case there are places/things that you want to see that aren't on the itinerary and you have two guides that may be able to assist you or advise you on the best way to get there. As I said, I'm sure you can do it on your own, but for us, it was well worth paying the extra money to have someone plan everything for us and chauffeur us around.

I completely agree with the value of ABD for an Italy trip. We did the Bella Italia trip in August and had a fantastic time. We did Rome on our own first, but hired a private guide (expensive, but worth it). You certainly can get around on your own, but having the guides get you to the major sites, and then having free time to explore on your own was the best possible combination. If you had to hire private guides in all those places, you would go broke. Also, under no circumstances should you try to drive in Rome--or anywhere else in Italy!!! We covered so much more ground having the tour as our back up and really enjoyed our free time to explore. The tour also takes you to special places that you would not be able to access on your own--like the beautiful organic farm where we had dinner one night-- Agriturismo La Galitea, or the contrada museum in Sienna.

I think if you're more comfortable with a Tour, then that's the way to go. We prefer to go at it alone -I enjoy the research and planning part. As far as driving goes -it REALLY is not that bad. In fact, we had a blast -stopping where we wanted when we wanted. Ok..so we did end up in a few people's backyards unexpectedly, but they were all very welcoming and amused at the tourists who spoke broken Italian. I would never recommend driving "in" Rome or Florence(or any other large city) -it's simply not necessary. We did drive out of Rome and in to Florence with no problem.

I've been to Italy twice with Club ABC tours. They did a WOnderful job! I chose them specifically because we did not have to eat ALL meals with the others on the tour. I like to choose where I want to eat and have along time with my family. I believe you have to eat all together with Perillo.
