I haven't been anywhere other than the airport or Cowboy Stadium in years but I'm planning a trip in a couple of weeks because we have to pick DD14 up at the airport, of course. We've spent the Spring and Summer remodeling our house so we're ready to see DD and have some fun.

I need advice on the best, most convienent area to stay. I will use Priceline to bid and book.

Definite things that we will be doing- Concert at the Superpages Center
Circus at American Airlines Center
Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues
Pointe Shoe fitting in Lewisville
Shopping

Any advice on a good location would be appreciated.

Advice on other fun things to do, places that a teen would enjoy shopping, good places to eat would be great.

Not sure where all those places are but we leave tomorrow for a quick trip to Arlington/Six Flags area. We are staying at the Hawthorne Suites, 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms/full kitchen - $135 a night. Never stayed with them before but we couldn't find a better deal.

You might be best off staying in downtown Dallas somewhere because many of those places are close to or in downtown. Lewisville is quite a drive to the north but you could plan a road trip for that one.

Alternatively, you could stay near the Dallas Galleria since it would be good for shopping. You would have to drive into the downtown area though and that can be quite difficult around rush hour.

As for hotel itself, hopefully someone will check in and give some suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unless I get other suggestions, I think I'll bid on Downtown or the Galleria area.

I realize that Lewisville is a drive but have been told that the dance store there is very good for pointe shoe fittings.

Location-wise, the best place to stay would be at the W hotel Victory. You would be right across the street from the AAC and 2 blocks from the HoB. It isn't often that you can stay somewhere in Dallas and walk to your locations.

If you don't stay at the W, you will be driving to all of your locations, so staying downtown isn't that big of a deal (and, while developing, there isn't all that much to do downtown). The Galleria area is 10-15 minutes away from the AAC and HoB, straight down the Dallas Tollway. If you could get a decent rate at the Westin Galleria, you would be right in the mall, so much of your shopping would be covered (of course, you will want to go to the high-end North Park Mall, too).

As in most big cities, a few blocks one way or another can mean the difference between Luxury and Larceny, so do your homework using the folks around here and Google Street View.

Good Luck & welcome to Dallas.

If you are really wanting to stay near your activities, then you have been well advised!

If, however, you were just wanting to stay somewhere fun, we do have a Great Wolf Lodge out in Grapevine. There's also a Bass Pro Shops out there, Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall, etc.

In Arlington there is a Six Flags and a Water Park that used to be called Hurricane Harbor, but the updated name escapes me...

Hotel-wise definately love the Dallas Sheraton... they just remodeled and it is beautiful, the restaurants are great, and you cannot beat the amazing staff! There is a Mary Kay conference there this week or next though, so may want to watch out for that.

And absolutely not budget, but the YO ranch steak house is fantastic. (more budget-friendly, the sports bar in the sheraton has AMAZING burgers).

I did an event in Dallas last year but spent most of my time inside the convention center. We did hit the Galleria which was nice shopping (there's a great frozen yogurt place there, but don't remember what it's called). We also did Northpark (I think? not sure if that was the name)

Have fun! I loved the city :)

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to try Priceline for the areas listed this week. I'll post back with what I get.

Great Wolf Lodge is out as my family doesn't think they would enjoy an indoor waterpark. Walking around in swimsuits and standing in line has lost its appeal for 3 of us and DD 14 will just be returning from her stay in Pennsylvania which ends with a trip to Hershey Park.

Arlington is also out as we don't care for Six Flags in the TX heat. My DS25 is joining us on this trip and he's pretty anti-theme parks. He's bowed out of our last two WDW trips and swears that he likely won't return unless he reverses his anti-parenthood stance at some future time. I'm using Harry Potter World and the promise of a possible trip at some time that wouldn't be hot to convince them all that we should return to WDW before too long.

No tips on where to stay, but if you haven't been there before, you should really go to the Dallas World Aquarium. It is fantastic. It is downtown near the West End District.

Would that be at Spotlight Dancewear? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that store! That's where we get all of my dd's dance shoes, etc.

Yes! Glad to hear of someone else whose had a good experience there. We normally go to San Antonio or Austin for fittings but DD is returning from the CPYB ballet intensive so we'll be in Dallas and will finally have a chance to try Spotlight.

Northpark mall is a great higher end mall. We prefer it to the Galleria. There are a doubletree, radisson and several other hotels in that area. The Galleria does have an ice skating rink though, in case that is something you are interested in. The Allen Outlets are great. We make the 2 1/2 hour trip to the Dallas area just to go there sometimes. You can get online for the websites for any of these shopping areas and see what stores are there.

we love the Japanese Gardens at the Ft Worth Botanical Garden. It is a bit of a drive from Dallas but definitely worth it. THe Dallas Arboretum is nice as well.

Oh, i miss Dallas...I can't wait to go back at the end of September...we're doing recon for our spring wedding at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie. :D

you'll love it! employees are very nice and helpful. the store is huge too! they somewhat recently moved into a much bigger place and it's awesome! there aren't a lot of options here for dance stores. there's one in Plano that i absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE and refuse to go there... Spotlight is a little bit of a drive for me (about 30 minutes maybe, not a huge deal) but worth it.

I'm one that likes downtown Dallas but it sounds like you have the great advice you needed. The Dallas World Aquarium is wonderful as someone said. Be sure not to confuse it with the other Dallas Aquarium in Fair Park.

We're back from a great trip. I used Priceline and won the Hilton Lincoln Centre for $48 per room (2 rooms). The Hilton is just across from the Galleria and an easy drive to all other places. It was even only about 15 minutes to Lewisville. It was a great deal on a great hotel-most comfortable beds ever! I was hoping for the W or the Westin Galleria but the Hilton was awesome and an unbelievable deal. Dallas must have a serious glut of hotel rooms.

We loved the DWA and took in The Bodies Exhibit.

All in all a great get away although extremely hot. Thanks for the great advice!
