I got back several days ago from a 6 day trip to WDW. I stayed at All-Star Movies in the Mighty Ducks section, which I recommend to anyone. No extra fee per night for a preferred room, about a 1-2 minute walk to the ASMu buses, with a pool right outside my door. Loved it.

Advice I'm glad I took:

I skipped the park hopping option. Didn't need it.
Wore my Keens and used aerosol antiperspirant on my feet.
Rotated between two pairs of Keens.
Make rope drop (when possible)

What I brought and didn't use:

Poncho (though I'd bring it again)
Touring plans (Instead I hit major attractions early in the day and kept on top of my fast passes.)

What I didn't bring and wished I had:

More money.
Earplugs! (to wear while on buses while children were having meltdowns and/or doing the toddler shriek)
Warmer clothes to travel in (going from one warm place to another, I forgot about the cold planes and airports in between.)
Inexpensive snacks for the room. I had a few, wished I had more.

What I was glad I brought:

Brita filter water bottle. The mouth of the bottle is wide enough for ice, and it was wonderful to have with me. Fill it up at soda fountains, water fountains, or with the cups of free ice water you can get at CS locations. I was glad to not have to rely on going to a counter and asking for a free cup of water all the time- there were almost always lines.
A caribeaner- I kept one clipped to my purse strap to clip the loop of my hat to on wild rides, to clip my water bottle, and to clip bags with purchased items in them.
Pool noodle- not only is it fun, there are some pretty good stretches you can do in the pool using the noodle under your ankle that helped my stiff legs.
Hard candy- having something small while waiting in line was nice
Mio- liquid flavoring similar to crystal light, but in a little squeeze bottle. This was great for enhancing free cups of water with my CS meals and saved me a ton of money by not buying flavored drinks.

Other advice:
Alternating shoes definitely helped
So did alternating which side I wore my cross-body purse strap on.
Swimming at the end of the day - this loosened up tight walking muscles and gave me a second wind every time.
STRETCH!
Eat as healthy as you can manage. It did wonders for my energy level.

So there you have it. Hope this helps.

Yes! One year I forgot to bring earplugs (to wear on rides such as Tower of Terror while others screamed and I am vaguiely suspicious ruined my hearing)

Or was it the calliope I listened to earlier that month?
Or was it the car radio cranked to be heard over the open window on the freeway?

The Keens were two different styles- a Whisper and a Newport.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Newport H2s! But I don't think I could wear them to the parks - my arches start to hurt after an hour or 2 of walking. They are very comfy and love the waterproof bonus! Whispers were too narrow on me, but they are really good looking - more elegant than the Newport for sure:cloud9:

the water bottle definitively makes my top 10 of good advice. I also use flavoring packet things in them. It kept me from having to buy DD juice or water every few minutes, she drinks a ton even at home.

We found out that you can get free ear plugs at Guest Relations. We kept looking for them in the gift shops and finally asked and was told to go to guest relations. Then, they just asked how many pairs we needed and the best part--they were FREE! It helped our 4 year old to almost be able to watch the fireworks.

We just got back from our first trip as well and I could not agree more about the switching of shoes. We brought around three pairs each and it was a godsend. Not just to give feet relief from a pair. It poured on Saturday and my Nike flip flops were soaked. They have a cushion in the footbed that soon resembled a sponge... Having different shoes gave me dry feet (for a few minute) and let me dry out my Nikes. With the kids' Crocs it wasn't a big deal, but if you have shoes that don't dry quickly, a new pair is heaven in a rain storm.

Glad you had a good time!

For use, Park Hopper is *must* we use it every time. ( though not every *day* :) ).

Poncho, we thought the same as you, *NEVER* even brought one... then one year... rained all day. I have memories of sitting in the Fantasmic! theater area, all of us in Ponchos, waiting for the rain to let up so they could start the show...

I have this exact same memory! Probably about 5 yrs. ago...then they didn't even do the full show that night.

My wife and I are first timers heading to WDW in late Jan 2012. Any advice from a person in a similar situation is a great help! Thx again!
