Can you have a band without instruments? Of course you can! The human voice is an instrument. A local Orlando band explores the harmonies and sound effects of the human voice. This A Cappella band is called Toxic Audio.
Formed from former employees and Cast Members of Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, Toxic Audio first performed at the 1998 Orlando Fringe Festival. Since then, theyve entertained many people at different venues across the country. The group members are the soprano Michelle Mailhot, alto Shalisa James, tenor Paul Sperazza, baritone Jeremy James, and bass Rene Ruiz. Their musical style is eclectic, singing sounds from jazz to country. They have two CDs available. Their self-titled CD is their first one. Captive Audience, their second CD, was recorded live at the Disney Institute Performance Center on January 21, 2000. They will be recording their third CD shortly.
Their songs are full of energy and will make your feet dance and toes tap. When I first heard of the group, I went to their website and listened to a few audio samples. I was instantly hooked. I played those samples many times and never tired of them. I bought both of their CDs and I cant stop playing them. They make my fingers snap and hands clap. The best thing that Toxic Audio does is mix different songs together to create something beautiful. For example, on their first CD, they mix Hooked on a Feeling with Chaka Khans I Feel for You. You hear the signature Oogah-chaka-oogah-oogah-chaka at the beginning. Then you hear I feel for you / Because I love you. Their second CD is filled with some great cover songs, like Walk the Dinosaur, Come Together, Lean On Me, Thriller, and even Britney Spears Baby One More Time.
For those who will be at Disney World this month, Toxic Audio will be playing at the Pleasure Island Jazz Company from July 9 to 11 and July 13 to 14. If you will be in town then, I highly recommend that you attend these shows. You will be thoroughly entertained. They recently played at the 2002 Orlando Fringe Festival and sold out crowds were the norm.
Toxic Audio has also performed at these venues:
Disney-MGM Studios
NHL All-Star Game (Tampa, FL)
Cityjazz in Universal Orlandos Citywalk
