Well I know you dont know much about me as I havent posted often, but I wondered if a trip summary from a newbie might still be interesting?! It was our 1st time to Disney as as a family, DH and I having done the US ages ago, before kids. This time we took our 6 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son, for 2 nights at Castle Club and 4 nights at Davy Crockett. What a heavenly time!!!
Highlights of Castle Club having a balcony overlooking the entrance portico, gardens and Mickey clock! And that was a standard room we were amazed! The VIP fastpasses we felt like royalty! (n.b. they only work between 11am and 2 hrs before park closing), the lift straight to the park entrance (literally less than a minute from our room to the gates), the free tea/soft drinks all day, the free cakes & brownies at teatime, gorgeous quiet breakfast with characters.
Davy Crockett pool was OK, could have been warmer. Unfortunately loads of ants in bathroom and kitchen (cleared away on 3rd time of asking, and pressies left for kids to say sorry). Nice to have 2 bedrooms so kids could go to sleep a bit earlier and we could talk over a bottle of wine, not poss when all sharing together! Had to hire a car to stay here, but still cheaper than paying for 2 bedrooms in an on-site hotel.
Highlights of DLP that we did EVERY single ride, show and attraction at least once. We were so thrilled when we managed to fit Autopia in the last half hour before having to leave for the train, as that was the final thing on the park map not yet ticked! All time fave was Big Thunder Mountain, closely followed by Buzz, Orbitron, & Dumbo. Most overrated IMHO was Indiana Jones. Best meal was Auberge de Cendrillon, where we met Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty & Prince, Snow White and Belle. Loved the Salon Mickey hot choc and croissant mid-morning.
Highlights of WDS Crush, Cars, Animagique, Stunt Show, in fact loads more than we thought. DH adored Tower of Terror, I loved Rockn Roller. We did every ride and show apart from Stich Live. Best moment was Cruella deVil taking DDs toy puppy out into middle of parade for a few mins before returning it safely!
We ate at Annettes (wonderful), Auberge (heavenly), Buffalo Bills (OK), Crocketts Tavern (OK). Fuente del Oro Tex Mex was v.g., Bella Notte disappointing.
We travelled by Eurostar, changing to TGV at Lille, as times were child-friendlier than the direct service. Clean, punctual, all 4 seated together round a table on all sections of journey. Buffet car on TGV sold crème brulee and individual glasses of wine for lunch!
If you get enough time for a day out in Paris, the Cite de Science & Industrie at Parc de Villette is brill for kids they have a whole section of hands on experiments.
I dont know if its poor etiquette here to talk about prices but thought it might help anyone wondering about a similar trip we paid £950 for the 2 nights at CC, £550 for the 4 nights at DC, £250 for the train tickets and £95 for the hire car for 4 days. Then there were meals and Buffalo Bill oh dear Ill stop adding it up there! But at least we bought all our Mickey fleeces on ebay before we went!!
Thank you all so much for the advice and tips I got off this board over the last few months. Without you, we wouldnt have known about Castle Club, owning shares, Salon Mickey, VIP fastpass etc etc, and it would still have been a good hol, but not nearly as FAB as it was!!
