Trip Report: WDW, US, DC, NYC, Vegas, LA

I get motion sickness too, and am disappointed with the number of new rides that are simulator based these days - The Simpsons, Terminator, and it seems most of the Harry Potter rides... Plus there's the Disney ones like Soarin' and Star Tours. I'll happily take on any rollercoaster multiple times in a row, but 5 minutes on a simulator will put me out of action for the day. Luckily I've found that popping a couple of kwells seems to work pretty well for me.

I also admire your willingness to 'wing it'. I couldn't do it - I'd spend my entire trip worrying about what was next. Although things didn't necessarily work out how you expected them to, it seems it all worked out well in the end.

.

Yes, the motion sickness really caught us by surprise. The drugs did nothing for him unfortunately. After the first day at Universal we did a lot more investigating of each ride to see what he could safely enjoy. He is going to work on losing weight and getting his blood pressure down before our next trip. Fingers crossed that will help.

The winging it is difficult for me, I'm a serious control freak! LOL. My work requires me to be very structured and often responsible for peoples safety so it's hard for me to let loose.

how many did you end up coming back? We took a suitcase in a suitcase and then a roll on sports bag over empty so brought 2 extra suitcases back, but you sound like you well and truly topped that.!

Any pictures to share also?

We came back with 2 brand new large suitcases (these were needed and always budgeted for, I promise! :lmao:), the very large roll on Walmart sports bag, the original bag and two "sizable" carry on bags. :rotfl2:

I've got plenty of pics, but (hangs head in shame :confused3) don't know how to post them here... any idea how I do that??

Well done on the shopping! Thanks for sharing.

I think CCB was a bit shocked at just how well I can shop when I'm in the mood! :rotfl2:

Normally I'm not a big shopper, but the USA, is a whole different story. I've "invested" for the next few years.... :rotfl:

But that implies....that you're not heading back there for the next few years.

When's your next trip of the lifetime? :rolleyes1

Wow you made that month go by fast! Sounds like a good trip. Sorry CCB unexpectedly had some ride issues. My DD can't ride any simulator stronger than Soarin' to her annoyance. DH experienced motion sickness a previous trip in TDL. Before that he was fine but he has had ongoing issues with tinnitus etc in his ears so we think its that (and old age - lol!) Our recent trip he sat out quite a few of the rides while I did them but he is OK on most simulator rides. He didn't attempt Forbidden Journey. Even kwelled I didn't feel up to riding again for some time after. I agree though, I felt a bit bad leaving him alone all the time so I didn't ride as many things twice as I might have done otherwise. But you are much more a thrill seeker than me - Hulk and Rip Ride Rocket - no way! Sound like you had a good time in Washington and NYC and shopping. So when's the next trip planned??

When's your next trip of the lifetime? :rolleyes1

Realistically, the USA (unless I score a work related trip, and that is always possible) will be more of a ten year prospect for a return. Then I want to be retired and live there for 3-4 months.

2016 will be a Hong Kong trip and then 2019 will be Europe.

The mortgage is cramping my travel wishes somewhat! :rotfl:

Lol, not so much a thrill seeker as "I'm here, what's the worst that can happen?" attitude! :rotfl:

2016 Hong Kong, 2019 Europe. But I do have my hand firmly in the air for any work related USA trips!

Day five - IOA

Straight to WWoHP and into the Forbidden Journey line. Once again I loved it but even with the new more powerful motion sickness tablets CCB was done for the day. We were both very disappointed. I used the single rider line to ride Duelling Dragons (nearly wet myself! :lmao:), Flight of the Hippogriff and Hulk.

We walk through the park and I didn't ride any more as I felt bad that we weren't experiencing it together. I did want go ride rip ride rockit and thought that Shrek would be a good ride for CCB despite all the scary warnings on it!

Again, crowds were very low in the morning and only moderate in both parks in the afternoon.

After a successful Shrek experience we made CCB's day while in the Minion shop... There were two Minions and a photo connect photographer with no wait! :woohoo:

It was at this point I decided to ride RRR using single rider. I emptied my pockets and off I went. I was in the front of the first carriage with another single rider who clearly hadn't read the very large and clear signs to empty pockets... He was asked to leave the ride.

So, this leaves me alone at the front. Now RRR looks long and high from the ground...it is nothing compaired to experiencing it. I just kept saying to myself that I hadn't heard of anyone dying on it as this seemingly never ending ride hurtled around.:scared1: I was shaking so badly when I got off that CCB cheered up immensely!

By this point it was about 2pm and we needed some lunch and to explore City Walk. We did a final photo check, confirmed that the other "mystery" family had access to their pics and that they couldn't delete our account and left the park.

After lunch at Emilles and a spot of city walk shopping we decided to head to the closest outlets for more shopping (the bottle of wine at lunch may have influenced this). ;)

Some alcohol induced purchases later we taxi back to the hotel. I have developed a thumping headache. Probably a combination of wine and rollercoaster whiplash. :rotfl:

CCB wants to try Taco Bell for dinner, which is a 20 minute walk from the hotel. I don't feel up to it, but knowing that he is still pretty upset about not being able to ride, I suck if up. Well, the girl who served us looked like she would rather be dead than where she was and the food was appalling. We abandoned the slop and decide that at least we know what we are in for at maccas!

Back at the hotel I take a headache tablet and go to sleep early.

Epcot tomorrow!

Your son sounds so much like mine, he wouldnt go on any motion rides and was getting so angry with himself. He worked himself up the next day to get on the Rip ride rocket and was so proud of himself as was I. Cant believe you went on that by yourself!! I kept hoping DS would turn around and chicken out cause I was afraid of the aftermath!

I made everyone ride the minion ride about 3 times cause I loved it and not a roller coaster person I got on the motion rides and loved them.

Great TR Crazy Cat Lady. I really enjoyed reading it.

Many of those Universal rides had the same effect on my husband. He recovered from Forbidden Journey in about half an hour, but Simpsons left him feeling queasy for the rest of the day. It's the 3D screens paired with a motion simulator that he can't handle.

Thanks WanderlustNZ. The Simpsons ride was full on, neither of us was expecting it, so we were caught off guard. Amazing ride though, what technology!

I nearly wet myself, from the first second the ride moved I would have given anything to get off!

Minions was great, I really enjoyed it.

The outlets opened at 10 am and we arrived about 10.30 after doing our washing. We finished up at about 6.30 that night about $4k poorer! It was well worth the trip for us. :cheer2:

WOW!!! $4k at the outlet store OMG, i should have sent my daughter over with you guys, she is looking forward to shopping up a storm - me not so much...lol

On another note - your trip sounds amazing

Yes, had a bit of a heart attack when we got back to the hotel and started adding it up. But I hadn't purchased shoes/clothes etc for a few years and knew I was going to shop it up. :thumbsup2

Your daughter will have a fantastic time shopping in the USA! Loft in particular was great for bargain Tees etc. They are a bit like Portmans/Sportsgirl.

I picked up some great Nike & Puma sports wear very cheap and it is fantastic quality. Would have cost me hundreds to buy here. The Nike Tee I wore walking this morning that cost $17 at the outlet was in a catalogue yesterday on "Sale" for $40!

Just remember that they add the tax on at the register, it isn't included in the price on the tag.
