Ok, first I should say that I didn't even know there was a whole area JUST for reports (how cool!), I just happened to click on a thread one day that was the start of a report and I was so "into" it that I couldn't stop reading ...........
the trouble is, that report is not updated often and I was wondering if that is the norm for most reports?
How long does one report NORMALLY take from start to finish?

I will admit that now that I know about this part of the board I have started printing reports out and even went and bought a pretty purple hard cover binder to keep them in so I always have reading material .... (yes I have some OCD issues).

So anyhow just wanted to ask those questions and also THANK all of you with such great writing talent for keeping me and others entertained :thumbsup2

I love reading Trip Reports as well. Although I don't have my own binder.....yet. (but is it a VERY good idea!)

I think it depends on the individual. Some tend to update regularly (every day, every week etc.) Others do an installment here, an installment there...and every so often you'll find that ocasionally some will start writing...and never finish....but I think the latter is pretty rare.

I think writing the trip report can be harder than it looks, and I LOVE coming on to the board to find a new installment...but I try to be as patient as I can...I know my REAL LIFE often gets in the way of my DIS time...so I have to assume that is true of others as well.

Generally though, and for the most part, I would say the reports are updated fairly regularly.

Thank you for the answers :)

As for the binder, I am OCD about organization so when I printed the first one and it was already 37 pages and still not done I knew I had to do something, lol.

Maybe I should start a mailing list, I can make copies and send a full book of completed trip reports (with the permission of the writers of course) to anyone who needs reading material and cant sit online all day to read (a.k.a get there fix). LOL! :rotfl2:

I think sometimes real life just gets in the way sometimes. Things like work, and kids, and family obligations sometimes just keep people from getting their reports up as quickly as the readers would like them to get up there.

I try to get mine finished within a couple of weeks of the end of my trip. Time distorts memory, so even with good notes, I feel that my trips are most accurate if I get them done as soon as possible after my trip (this is more so I will have an accurate account of my trip to read back and remember in the future). Some day I forget from one day to the next.

I guess we just have to be patient and hope that the writers get to their reports as soon as they can :)

I know when I did my recent trip report, I tried to finish it as quickly as possible, because I didn't want to forget any of the stuff I wanted to include. That being said, the actual writing of the trip report was a bit more time consuming than I had anticipated!

heh heh. Mine is taking forever, and it's not normal. But I'm writing it for my kids, for our family scrapbook. Posting it here (and getting the encouraging posts to go on) is what's helping me get it done in a MORE timely (can you believe that?) fashion than if I attempted to just do it. Plus, having DISers for an audience makes it easier to write. I tried writing one with my kids as the audience, and it was boring. Really.
