Hi everyone! Ok- I went thru a few of my 2012 pictures, and uploaded some onto photobucket. Now I'm going to pretend I'm doing a trip report and putting them in this post... I would post them in picture of the day, but I don't want to mess up that thread until I know what I'm doing. (LOL- guess then it's ok to mess it up :lmao:)

So here we go: this was our family's first (and only) trip to Disneyworld. Actually it was our family's first and only trip ANYWHERE for more than 2 nights in all our time together as a family! It was February of 2012- we chose to stay at the cabins because with 6 of us it seemed the cheapest way to go- at that time we had NO idea how much we would fall in love with the Fort. This first picture is arriving at the Fort...

Here is another....

The kids totally fell in love with the pool (of course!).....

And we did the penny machines and the Hoop De Doo!

OK- that's all the pictures I put in my library for now, so we'll see how this all turns out! I'm sorry for practicing on you guys, but hopefully you will all be patient with me while I get this figured out! If this works, I think I'll be set for a Christmas trip report from the Fort! But I have to warn you- I'll be like a posting maniac! :)

Ok, I misunderstood. I'll just stand here and wait for December ;).

We won't be back to the Fort until April and your trip report will help get me through the dark time until we arrive. Love live trip reports.

I'd love to hear about your 1st stay at cabins as there are hardly any reviews. We are from uk and have decided to stay in cabins in oct 2015 as there are 6 of us too.
We can't wait till April to b able to finally book the cabin. We are planking to be there over Halloween. We are so excited please tell us more.
Thanks
Angie

Hi Angie! We had no idea what to expect when we made our reservations- we made them there simply because we wanted to qualify for free dining, and it was one of the few ways we could all stay in one room. After staying there for 10 days, we completely fell in love with the Fort, as do so many others on these boards...

There is just something special about it there. I think for every family, it's probably different things that make it special. For us, I'll tell you what some of the things were....

Getting up in the morning and being surrounded by nature. Beautiful trees all around us....chipmunks....little lizards....birds....sunshine.....flowers.... and most of all- peacefulness. There is so much peacefulness at the Fort. Driving a golf cart to the laundy facility, passing people who are out walking dogs, or biking- everyone is friendly and happy to be there- it's just such a "welcome home" kind of feeling.

The boat ride to magic kingdom- simply amazing. We never got tired of it! Compared to riding a bus, the boat is magic in itself.

Being able to sit on the beach at night, with not many people around, and watch the fireworks and the electrical parade. I know so many people say there's nothing like watching it from main street, but I feel there is nothing like watching it from a beautiful sandy beach, laying in a lounge chair, holding your husbands hand in the quiet of the night, and watching (and listening) to the magic around us....

Being able to walk in the barns, and actually see the working horses at Disney in their home environment- it was so cool! Of course, we own a horse boarding/training facility in MN, so this was right up our alley! But even for others, this seemed like a beautiful and interesting place to visit...

Those are just a few of the things. The cabins themselves were wonderful- we loved them! The kids all slept in the back bedroom, and we had the pull down bed. (which we both thought was REALLY comfortable, by the way) It's not super big, but it was soft and nice! The dishes were clean, the housekeeping was wonderful, and it was just nice to be able to come back each day to a place that felt like a "home" and not just a "room".

Please feel free to ask me any other questions and I'll do my best to help you! The people on this camping board are a group of the most amazing and kind individuals I've ever run across, and most of them love to help out too, so hang around here, and you'll find out tons of good information!! :thumbsup2

Great pictures! You have inspired me to try a post when we are in next month for Halloween. I wrote down all the directions and I'm psyched to try it now. Thanks too for your lovely thoughts about the Fort. As RVers, it's one of our very favorite spots to camp - without even considering the parks and we try to get in at least once a year. This year we'll have Halloween with the kids and grands and then three weeks in January for just us.......wonderful........

Angie, looking forward to hearing about your planning as it progresses for 2015

Hi

Thanks for info I'm so excited now I can't wait only 2 more years to go! Do u think we need a golf cart whilst there. What are the places like to eat at the fort. :)

It's hard waiting, isn't it? But yet as it gets closer, that's such an awesome feeling. We are exactly 99 days from checking in today, and it's always in my thoughts. You hear people say the planning is half the fun, and I really agree with that. You aren't QUITE there doing everything, but yet in your mind you are living the experiences over and over each day! :)

To answer your questions: we are a family of 6- that includes our 4 children. (2 sets of twins ages 8 and 11). For us, having a golf cart was wonderful. We used it each time we went to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. And Downtown Disney as well. We took the golf cart up to the area where all the buses come for the other parks, and then later on it was waiting for us when we came back. It saved a lot of time waiting for the internal buses, which is nice when you have younger kids. We also used the golf cart when we went to the pools or the campfire/movie. Or to do laundry. And this year when we go at Christmas, we are actually renting TWO golf carts, just because our kids are a little bigger, and instead of a 6 seater, we got two 4 seaters. It will allow us a little more freedom in not all of us having to be ready at the same time to go anywhere. And we're really excited about just exploring the whole Fort- we didn't have enough time to do that our first trip.

For eating- we were VERY lucky in having free dining, and we tried so many wonderful restaurants all over the parks. But there were a few times we did eat at the Fort- we got pizza once and ate down by the lake- there were table set up down there- I think they were actually on part of the dock, but I could be wrong. And we got chicken there once too! And they had some other choices there, but we didn't get a chance to try a lot of them. There seemed to be enough things that everyone should be able to have a nice meal there. And we actually had a few things at the Meadows pool snack bar- they had a chicken sandwich there that was really good! And a few other sandwiches too, that I thought sounded good! Another thing I remember about eating at either place was the people working there were always so NICE!! :goodvibes Sometimes, to me, that's more important than how big or how many choices a place has.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions!

You get to go there TWICE in the next few months?? YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!!!!! Isnt' it exciting?! I am so super excited to do a trip report when we are there at Christmas- I know how much I've loved seeing them from other people, and I want to be able to do that for others too! Plus it's fun for me- kind of like keeping a diary when we are younger- plus having pictures to to with it! I will be watching for your report at Halloween- I bet it will help me learn even better how to do mine! :goodvibes

Pretty much like driving a car. You do need a drivers license to drive.
