Straw hat update post #12 We have just returned from a week of hotel hopping and fun and thought I would post.
2/18/06-arrived late stayed at Holiday Inn Sunspree. Decent hotel good price $95 for standard room. Great breakfast buffet-$9.95/adult kids free.
2/19/06-our big surprise day for kids NICK HOTEL. We arrived at 9:30 and checked in. Also made our reservation for Nick at night show. Of course the room wasn't ready but they issued our wristbands and we were welcome to use facilities. The kids played in the water park til noon. Both children were chosen to be in a show poolside. My daughter got slimed. It made her day. It was a litttle chilly so we decided to use our Sea world pass. We did 5 hrs at Sea world.
We returned and ate at the mall prior to the show @ 7:15. My son was chosen to participate. Monday morning we did breakfast and checked out via tv and then were able to stay on the property all day. We enjoyed the pool and water slides all day leaving at 5:00pm. For the price of one night we enjoyed roughly 36 hrs at NICK.
2/20/06-checked back into Sunspree but got a kids suite this time. DON'T waste your $$$. I was spoiled by the seperate rooms at NICK suites. All the kids suite was was a partition in the middle of a standard room. It reminded me of an office cubicle. Not worth $20 more.
2/21/06-Checked out and off to Sea World for our 2nd day free. We had a blast. Fed the dolphins, enjoyed some free beer, saw some shows, DH and DS loved the coasters. If you plan to enjoy Shamu show plan to arrive 1 1/2 hrs early. That was the only thing that required extra time. We left here and enjoyed birthday dinner for DH at Rainforest. Loved the fact that I could finally get the staff to sing to him with the VOLCANO desert. From here we drove to tampa to stay at Holiday Inn near Busch Gardens. What a disappointment. We were supposed to stay two nights. When we arrived we were informed it is no longer a Holiday Inn. It was run down and DIRTY! The room smelled musty, the vents were filthy and the rugs didn't look vacummed. It was now 8:00pm so we dealt for a night and checked out the next morning.
2/22/06 Off to a day at Busch Gardens. What a park! My DH and DS loved all the coasters. DD and I enjoyed all the wildlife. We all enjoyed the shows. Pirates 4D was great as was Katonga. DD was a little disheartened when she left Katonga and as soon as we got out the door realized he had left her new hat she had bought at Sea world behind. We immediately turned around and went back for it and it was gone. The staff was great looking with us. DD said she saw a lady leave wearing it. At first she assumed she had the same hat but now we know it was hers. A sad ending to a great day. Now we have no hotel for the night so we head south to my parents place a day early.
Sorry so long. If you have any questions ask away!

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip, besides that mean person who stole the hat.
We are planning on going to Busch Gardens as well. How were the lines and what day of the week did you go? Did you go on the safari?

We went on Wednesday of Presidents week. The lines weren't bad at all. the most DH and DS waited for coasters was 10 minutes. We did start with the suggestions on these boards to go to Sheikra and the other big ones in the back of the park and then move forward but the back of the park opened 30 minutes after the entrance so we did Gwazi and some other rides while waiting and still had no trouble getting on the others

Sorry We didn't go on the safari (rhino rally) only because the kids were out of steam. I wish we had.

Thanks for the reviews. What was the new name of the once Holiday Inn?

Hiya,

THanks for that great report. Do you mind if I ask how old your kids are? I'd like to do the Nick Hotel some day too but not sure my 4 year old is up for it. ALso, if it's not too personal, what was the rate for the NIck hotel?

Thanks!

Beth :)

They are calling the hotel in Tampa the Tampa Hotel now(formerly Holiday Inn). We paid $237 with tax for the Nick Hotel. I beleive they are running a special though at $125. I'm a teacher in MA so I can only travel during peak times.
My children are 7 & 9. They were a perfect age because they could go off and do the slides and just check in. We were of course right at the poolside. Also, I felt good seeing at least four lifeguards on the water slide structure.

happy to see you enjoyed busch gardens. it's always living in the shadows of the big boys in orlando. BG also has a nice water park called adventure island next door. next time you're there and it's warmer, check it out.

We stayed at the HIFS prior to Nick - it looks really neat now!
Very happy to hear your kids enjoyed Busch Gardens, Sea World and the Nick Hotel! My kids are the same age - and they really enjoyed Busch Gardens this trip - maybe more than Disney (which makes me sorta sad!)... When you do get to ride Rhino Rally - have one of the kiddos sit in the navigator spot if possible - that is a real hoot!

Re. the former Holiday Inn in Tampa.. I received this hotel as a 3* priceline bid for three nights for a trip last May. I read just horrendous reviews of the place - so I forfeited the reservation (non-refundable terms) after a long fight with Priceline re. the star rating of this hotel (went to BBB and all).. I am sorry to hear about your stay there - but I am glad the rest of the trip went well! Sounds like your family had a great vacation!

there is nothing like a crappy hotel to make you sad, we stayed at one once for two nights before checking into timeshare and well we made the most of it, stayed out of room as long as possible

Thanks for the info on Nickhotel! I looked at it online with ds and dh and they both think it looks fantastic...we'll keep it for someday. Don't know if ds will *ever* consent to being slimed! :crazy2:

Honestly, the only hotel worth staying at in the BG area is the Embassy Suites. BG should open a resort hotel, they woudl make a killing.

Thanks for the TR!

I had emailed Sea World shortly after returning home and explained my daughter's stolen hat situation. I was hoping they could help me order a new one for her. My wish has come true. Deb from Sea World got back to me today saying she had found the hat and all she needed was an address and she would ship it right out. My daughter is thrilled. THANKS DEB!

Glad to hear you had a great time at Busch! I love that park!

I absolutly agree that many of the hotels directly around Busch are terrible, but for anyone planning a visit we stayed at the Hampton Inn (about 5 mins from the park) and it was brand new and very nice, not to expensive either.
