Hi, we went to Disney world for two weeks May 3-16. Actually we went to Vero for the weekend. In general the crowds were pretty light, and it was pretty hot. We are dvc members, my mil is a cm, we've been to disney world a lot (this was our five-year-old's 20th trip) so we probably go a little slower than some.

One thing I noticed this year was a lot of really egocentric folks. I've seen rude people at disney world before - men not getting up to offer women or old folks a seat on the bus, or people cutting in line or jumping in front of someone. But I saw more of that this past trip than I have ever noticed. I thought maybe it was the hot temperatures. It also occurred to me that it could be the economy - a lot of people seemed really set on making sure their family had a good time and clueless that there were people around them. One of the favorite lines I heard was during the rope drop "dash" to toy story mania "No, no, sir, that 'no running' thing doesn't apply to you; it is just to slow the other people down." That cracked a lot of people up.

In general we had a great time. Our five-year-old son rode Kali river for the first time and loved it, and rode test track for the first time, and loved it. We saw lots of Mickey and his pals. Had a couple of decent meals - I really enjoyed the Chef's de France with Remy. I hadn't been there in years and I liked the meal better than I remembered. We also had a good time at Tokyo Dining. We had OK meals at places like mama melrose's and brown derby. One thing I would say is that we went without reservations to everything but a breakfast at crystal palace and the remy meal at france. But we usually ate table service at lunch, which probably is less busy. We had no trouble just walking up though.

Vero was great over the weekend. Our kids really enjoyed the campfire there.

OK, here is one story of something that happened last week at magic kingdom. This beat anything I've ever seen. You won't believe it, but this is what happened.

We were at magic kingdom. It was really hot, like 95F. It was in the mid-afternoon around 2 O'clock or so. Our 21-month old daughter was acting like she wanted to take a nap, she had a busy morning. Our son is really in to Thunder Mt. and Spash Mt., two thrill rides that he, at 5 years-old, is tall enough to ride, but his sissy isn't. My wife and I sort of shared the plan that we'd let sissy fall asleep and take a nap while we took turns riding those rides with son in the afternoon. She was in a stroller, and and mom and son got some fast passes for the rides and went off to ride splash mt. in the stand by line - my wife told me that she'd meet up after that ride at he gift shop there.

In the center of Brer Rabbit's gift shop there are two rocking chairs. I figured I'd sit in one of those and rock and sissy would fall asleep and nap. When I went in, there was a guy standing in front of the rocking chair on the left, taking a baby out of the stroller. So I pulled up her stroller in front of the chair on the right, and started taking her out. At this point, for any normal people, there would be a conversation along the lines of "Boy, it sure is hot," "where are you from," etc., etc., as the babies fell asleep. Instead, this guy takes off his phillies cap and flips it on the chair on the right and he sits down in the chair on the left. So I look over and I'm like what the heck? and the guy says "I'm saving that seat for my daughter." OK, whatever. So I put her stroller a little over to the side of the chair on the right. I put her back in the stroller, and I figured that she would take a nap there in the stroller in the cool air conditioning. So I slide the thing to lay the stroller seat down. Then I started to go through her bag which was hanging on the back of the stroller to get her sippy cup that had juice in it, so I am standing to the right of the chair on the right.

Then this very pregnant lady comes over and looks at me, because I'm standing next to that chair, and asks if I'm sitting there, and I said no, and she sort of motioned "can I sit there" and I said sure, sit down.

And that guy flips his phillies hat off again and into the chair. He had started talking on his cell phone, about so-and-so on thunder mt. and so-and-so on splash, and now he is saying, "NO! I"m saving that chair for my daughter, she is shopping in the store."

And I said "seriously, you're going to put your hat there so a pregnant lady can't sit down?"

And he said "Disney world is first come, first serve."

And I said "Really, it's like 90 something degrees outside and she is like what, 7 or 8 months pregnant and you are going to keep your hat in the chair so she can't sit down?"

And he looked at me and gritted his teeth and sort of hissed out "Mind your own friggin business."

And I am getting so p'd here. And I said "Dude, I'm standing right here and you are keeping your hat on a chair so a pregnant woman can't sit down, that is my business."

And he hisses "It's none of your freaking business."

And I said "well I'm making it my business"

And he said "tell it to the judge."

Now that kind of threw me for a second because I don't know what he meant by that. But I thought about it a second, and said "OK, I'll find a judge."

So I stepped over to the counter where there was cast member who was an older middle age man working and I said "Mister, that guy is putting his hat on that chair so that pregnant woman can't sit down."
And the cm working there said "well, move it." And then he looked over to the guy and sort of hollered "move it."

And the guy starts yelling about he is saving it for his daughter and she is right there waiting in the line at the cash register, blah blah blah. And the pregnant woman says "it's ok, I'll just go outside" and she leaves.

Now I am so mad. I had carried my daughter the few steps over to the counter, and I walk back to her stroller that is still over there and me and this guy are having words. It was probably funny looking in a way because we are both holding babies cussing each other out in like stage whispers. And I know sissy shouldn't be around this so I'm pushing her stroller out and having words with this guy on the way.

So I get outside, my hands are literally shaking I'm so mad. A few minutes later, this big young bald guy comes up to me. He was that girl's boyfriend, she had told him about what happened, and he thanked me. He said he was over there waiting for his mother, and he was glad he hadn't been in there, and I said yeah, I am too. And we talked about it a while. She was 8-months pregnant, they lived in Orlando, neither of us understood what makes someone be such a *******. So they get a wheel chair for the lady and she comes over and says thanks, and we talked a while and I said wait a minute, let me get your picture because no one is going to believe this, and she said sure. And then I thought a second, and I said I'm going back in to take that guy's picture, too, so I did.

So here is this poor girl that this guy won't let sit down.

And here is that dude in the phillies cap. His daughter had come and sat in the chair on the right. Now here's the thing. If my son was sitting in a chair and a pregnant lady wanted to sit down, I'd say "get up, let the pregnant lady sit down." Any normal person would. Heck I hope He would have gotten up without me telling him to. I can't imagine what is going through this guys head to think he should save a seat for his daughter like that? Seriously.

What makes people act this way? Is it there something just competitive about disney world for some people? This was more than just clueless and not paying attention.
