We arrived at the port with the other family travelling with us at about 10:45 am. Got in a long line (Castaway Club) but it went pretty fast though and before we knew it we were on board heading to Rockin' Bar D to make Palo reservations. Lunch at Parrot Cay was entertaining with Adrian as our server. We were disappointed to find no big juicy already peeled shrimp. The whole lunch was kind of underwhelming compared to times visited in the past. On to the stateroom! We were in 6552 which is an adjoining room. I didn't think much of it until I realized I could hear loud...LOUD baby screams. Also later we got much louder toddler screams. Like holler monkeys. I'm not exaggerating. No matter how much I write you can't imagine how loud these children were. ( I have children by the way I know what loud is, this was beyond) They woke me and my whole family up at 5 am Sunday morning. When they didn't have the sense to take the baby out of the room, I staggered down to the GS desk to ask for a room change. They would get back to me. My advice is that if you are assigned an adjoining room to someone you don't know then ask for a room change early before you get on board. There is a large gap between the door and the frame which lets in lots of sound! We were told something about people missing the boat and checking in later in Key West. If they didn't check on then we could change rooms. As it turned out everyone checked in but we were offered a room on deck 2. We paid for a balcony this time and we wanted to enjoy it. We've been on deck 2 plenty of times and I didn't want to lose the balcony.
We skipped the character breakfast since our son wanted to go to the club and sent our dd age 4 with our friends. They'd never been to a character breakfast so they wanted to go. We have been to 2 already and remembered the bad food and RUSH to get pictures with the characters. Instead my husband and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Lumiere's. EGGS Benedict!
We had a wonderful day in Key West despite the lack of sleep. We left the kids in the kid's club (their request) and headed into town. We ended up renting a small electric vehicle which was totalling fun!! I highly recommend it. We went to the southern most point as our friends had never been and wanted to see it and take pictures. We stopped at all different places. We gave the car to our friends to tool around in for awhile (we had registered them as drivers too) and went to get the kids. They had a blast in the car. It was a highlight to drive around in a car with no doors. We ended the day in Sloppy Joes which just happened to be across from the car rental place. We headed back to the ship just in time for Who wants to be a Mousekteer!
WWTBAM was great! both of our families got on stage. You may have read about that in another thread. I won't go into the details here but my husband and daughter got $125 in shipboard credit and our friends (with the infamous Tim Rice question)ended up with $80.
I'll continue my trip report
