Yes-- :scared1:a family of 5 in a BLT studio, you may say NO WAY but yes we did it. This was a last minute trip to celebrate DSs 8th birthday and his wish was to stay at BLT and all that was available was a standard view studio. The trip was for 3 nights from 8/20 to 8/23 and we got a room on the 3rd floor with a great view of the pool/bay/shuffleboard area, we were very pleased with the view and the kiddos loved hearing the music that played all day in that area-- gotta love those JO BROS!:rotfl:

We knew going in that the room was going to be small since we saw the models at SSR over xmas but thought 'hey we're a close family we could handle it for 3 nights' and we did. The rooms are small but that was not really an issue as much as the other odd design features of the room. We had the boys sleep on the pullout and DD slept in the pack n play. We put the pack n play in front of the pullout and there was still room to walk around it and get to the balcony on the morning when the kids were sleeping.

Our biggest complaint was the bathroom and we could not understand who would put the bathroom and kitchen sink back to back---- it made for some very humorous conversations in the morning--lol:laughing:. We would definitely not stay here if we were going to be using the kitchen side at all---- seemed so unsanitary to be blowing drying hair onto the counter behind you where someone could be making food-- yuck--- someone definitely dropped the ball on this design--- but who knows maybe it will work for someone.
Conclusion: only stay here if you will NOT be using the kitchen side and it is a very short trip!;)

Thoughts on TOTW lounge-- was a great place to see fireworks and a nice idea but the food offering were not good, we tried the Buffalo and Tomato Flatbread and the dessert trio and would get neither again. We liked the lounge but felt something missing, maybe it would be better as a resturant or something else we thought.

Pros:
We found the staff at the resort to be the most friendly we've seen and to always be in a good mood. We loved the pool and the music playing around it. Our view was great! Loved the location!

Cons:
That bathroom sink/kitchen area is bad. There is no soap dish in the shower, we found this more annoying than the sliding door, which was never a problem for us-- don't see all the stink about that and we have 3 kids. The light on the kitchen side did not work. We had no luggage rack in the room(it was listed on the list of things in the room). No sheet for the pack n play. The refrig was dirty and there was a used coffee filter in the trash when we arrived--- and we don't drink coffee at all! And front desk forgot to set us up for express checkout even though we had a credit card on file.

But all in all we had a great time and loved the resort and can't wait to try a 1 bedroom!!! We survived in the studio but with the youngest turning 3 soon that will not be an option again for us again. DS loved his birthday trip

Nice trip report! Did you report the things that were wrong? That's something the front desk should be aware of, and the maintenance issues should be fixed.

Wow, Congratulations you did it and are still smiling!:goodvibes

I can't wait to stay in the Dedicated 2 bedroom come January.

Thanks for your review!

A thought, please excuse if it's a dumb one as I haven't seen any pics of the galley size in relation to a person... do you think it would be possible for them to install a divider, such as a retractable shade between the kitchenette area and the bathroom counter?

I love the title ending of your post: Oh My!

Thanks for sharing your adventure and you still enjoyed your family time at Disney, even if all wasn't quite perfect!

Nope, the area is only about 3 feet wide. If they cared to do anything about this, they could install a much-needed full length mirror on the wall in the entryway and have an outlet there for a hair dryer. This way people wouldn't be locked into drying hair in the galley. (But I seriously doubt they'd do anything like that.)

In the other studios where I've stayed throughout my Disney Life there has always been a full length mirror on the back of the bathroom door. Why can't they just do that??? Sheesh......:confused3

Oh I forgot all about no full lenght mirror-- I didn't think I would miss it but I found out I look at myself in the mirror way more than I thought!

The best solution would be for Disney to put in a small vanity on the bathroom side of the wall and totally dedicate the galley for the kitchenette.

They should put in a pedastal sink with a pretty deep shelf on top of it, with a mirror. It wouldn't be great, but it wouldn't be gross!

Oh one other thing that was a pain for the kiddos was the bathroom sink height. My DS5 and DD2 could not reach the sink to turn the water on and off-- the bathroom sink is a very high kitchen level counter, not little kid friendly at all. They should have step stools for request at this resort or the may have alot of crushed garbage cans:rotfl:.

Could one blowdry hair in the bathroom if there was a mirror? I am thinking about rigging something up with velcro or something. Is there an outlet? Of course, then I would have to pack a hair dryer which is a pain.

DH has a hair phobia and I think the kitchenette scenario will put him over the edge.

My family and I took a tour of the BLT units at BLT two weeks ago and the first thought I had about the two sinks in close proximity is contamination from someone who just used the potty and would be washing his/her hands near where food is being stored or prepared.

Having said that, I would still like to stay in one of the studios for a few days, say from Sunday night to Thursday night.

You won't need to bring one, it's not the wall unit but a regular hair dryer like yours at home. But I didn't see an outlet in the bathroom.

Still hard to tell how close the two sides are - maybe a door jam width apart?

Someone reported yesterday that it's 34 inches from the outside of the fridge (which sticks out the most) to the counter on the opposite side.

Here is a screen capture from the virtual room tour on the public DVC website showing the combined kitchenette and bathroom vanity:

If you want to see the virtual tour, here is the link: http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/miniSite/index?name=CrystalMiniSitePage

If you look at the floor plan in the lower left corner of this screen capture, it shows the bathroom vanity in the same room as the toilet and shower but as we know, that is not what was built.

So, could there be a chance the lead carpenter/build-out contractor was 'smoking' that day and put the vanity on the wrong side . . . for all the studios? :rotfl:

I wanted to add-on at BLT, but since we always stay in a studio [DH not as big a fan as me] I just can't justify adding on there when I don't see myself staying there much. :sad1:

BTW: LisaS - you always find the best information and photos to insert!
