I already am planning our trip to Orlando for 2006 and since we have not been to Universal in about 13 years I am pretty clueless. What I would like to know from others is the very end of February through the first week of March a good time to go? I am thinking about 2/28/2006 through 3/09/2006. What can I expect for crowds? We are thinking about staying at the Homewood Suites on I-Drive. The hotel seems to get very good reviews. So given the times that I am thinking of going can we get by with not staying on-site at Universal? As beautiful as the hotels look if we choose some place else to stay we can extend our vacation to 10 days, otherwise we would have to cut it down. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have been for 2 weeks in February three times and think it is the ideal time to go. Queuing times for rides was very good and the weather was good.

I have never stayed on site at Disney or Universal but do hire a car which enables us to get so much more from the holiday.

I would go, as you suggest, to somewhere cheaper to enable you to spend more time in the area, after all you do not spend that much time awake at your hotel.
