The Plan:
Epcot in the morning
Magic Kingdom in the evening
ADR-6:50-Dinner-Liberty Tree Tavern
Actual
Weather 80s/Low Humidity
Well after two very long days in the parks we decided to take it a little bit slower this morning, we had planned on starting off this morning at Epcot, but instead we were just going to enjoy a leisurely start this morning. I had made ADRs at Whispering Canyon for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. I was joined by Sorceress and Swimlover and we had a very nice breakfast. We all decided to order the skillet breakfast which came with Scrambled Eggs, Red Bliss Potatoes with Sautéed Onions, Bacon, Sausage, Buttermilk Biscuits, Sausage Gravy, and Waffles, with out Flash or Indy1 there we made it through breakfast with only the one skillet. The restaurant was pretty quiet this morning, not to many shenanigans going on, a few requests for ketchup was about it. After our breakfast the Sorceress threw in a couple of loads of wash and while they were running we went and got a table by the pool, Swimlover went back to bed for awhile.
We sat by the pool for a couple of hours just the two of us and it was really enjoyable to relax and be able to spend time with each other while we waited for the wash to finish and the others to start stirring to start their day, well almost their afternoon.
While I was sitting at the table and the Sorceress had taken a load of clothes up to the room I was visited by what I think was a very unique Goose.
Oh, Sorry wrong picture, lets try that again
He made a very distinctive noise that I had never heard a Goose make before; it was almost like he had a sinus condition. Eventually Indy1, TinkerBoo and Eeyore came down got some breakfast at Roaring Fork and joined us at the table, followed shortly by Swimlover who had gotten up for the second time today.
We also took this opportunity to update The Book, this is something that Nugget started on our last trip to Walt Disney World in 2005. It is a bound book of blank pages; everyone takes one page for each day and must draw their most memorable moments for that day. Needless to say none of us are artists by profession so; there are some very interesting and artistic renderings in The Book. I always give her a hard time about having to make my entries, but it is a really cool thing to have. I really like looking at everyone elses entries.
The rest of the group joined us and we were off to the Magic Kingdom around 11:00 via the launch, we got to the park much faster today, I guess it was because we didnt run into any Marathon traffic like we did yesterday. Of course I guess we wouldnt since we were on water and they dont run the marathon on water so that
never mind. Once we arrived on dry land again and got through bag check and the turnstiles we headed for Adventureland to get Boot Strap on Pirates of the Caribbean. He is really into Pirates these days (wish I owned stock in Fisher Price) with Dinosaurs coming in a close second.
Just an observation while I am thinking about it in regards to the security bag checks at Walt Disney World. I dont think we waited in any bag check line more than 1-2 minutes our whole trip. When we go to
Disneyland on our weekly visits it is not uncommon to spend 10-15 minutes waiting in the bag check lines with the same amount of lines open. Not sure why this happens but wish Disneyland would figure it out and make a change. Dont even get me started on the turnstile lines in Anaheim.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program. So we head through the line for Pirates (I like the Magic Kingdoms Pirate queue much more than Disneylands) it was pretty much a walk on. After we survived our journey with the Pirates we hung around out front so Boot Strap could catch the Jack show. Unfortunately, he didnt get picked to participate in the show, but it was an enjoyable show. So off we head to Frontierland to take a ride on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which we discover is down when we get there. So Boot Strap and Nugget made their own ride.
As we are standing around having fun and deciding what were going to do Eeyore over hears a CM say that it is going to open back up in just a few minutes, so the group mills around in front of the entrance to see what happens and sure enough they start letting people in. and we hear the following "Hang onto your hats and glasses, folks, cause this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!"
We then headed off back to Adventureland for a ride on the Jungle Cruise, here we encountered a bit of a line, maybe a 15 minute wait, not bad at all lots of things to look at and have fun with.
We had a female Captain who did a pretty job delivering those corny but lovable jokes.
When we were finished and safely back on shore it was time to drive the little remote controlled Jungle Cruise boats AT $2 A POP.
Once we had lined the pockets of Trader Sam (does he have pockets) we decided that it was time for a trip to Tomorrowland.
Most of the group, except for Sorceress and I went on Stitchs Great Escape, we decided that we wanted to go on the Tomorrowland Transportation Authority instead (I miss the Peoplemover at Disneyland), we are not big fans of Stitch or Spit. We agreed to meet up at Space Mountain after our rides. We were a little delayed in meeting the rest of the group because the ride on the Tomorrowland Transportation Authority had been so enjoyable and relaxing that as we pulled in the unload area I asked the CM if we could stay on and go around again, so off we went again. We finally made it over to Space Mountain to meet up with the rest of the group. Before heading into Space Mountain we noticed that they were giving out wristbands for Extra Magic Hours so we got in line (not much of one) and got ours. After our wristbands were securely fastened it was time for Space Mountain and what better after a trip through space then to try and save the galaxy from that Evil Zurg guy, so off to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. This is a cool ride, but I do like the detachable guns that they have on the Disneyland ride better. This is why along with the fact that Sorceress kept spinning the car, the air condition was blowing too hard and caused the laser beam to be deflected away from the targets and caused my glasses to fog up is why I barely surpassed 100,000 in points. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.
After losing our fight for the universe against Zurg it was time to head back over to Liberty Square for our 6:50 p.m. ADRs at Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner.
So when we made our ADRs back in November we were told that they did not have any tables that would accommodate a party of 9, they could do a party of 4 and party of 5 and try and get us as close to each other as possible, we inquired if that was because it was a busy night and should we maybe consider another night so we could sit together? The Cast Member said that they did not have any tables that could handle that size of a party in the restaurant.
Okay we were not feeling the Magical Gathering here, but it was requested that we do a character dinner for Boot Strap to have some interaction with the characters and since we had always enjoyed our lunch time experiences here we thought what the heck. So we arrive at Liberty Tree Tavern and check in around 6:40, where we are once again told that they could not accommodate a party of 9 and that we would have to be split into parties of 4 and 5. We tell the Cast Member that we were aware of that and wait for our name to be called.
Eeyore was not happy at all with our first accommodations
We got called to our tables around 7:05 and as we following the Cast Member to our tables I notice that we pass a table with 10 people around it, then one with 9 and then as we enter the room that we are going to be sitting in the middle of the room is a round table with a party of 12 (10 adults, 2 children). Well isnt that MAGICAL. What was bothering me is that we were told that there were no tables in Liberty Tree Tavern that could accommodate a large party, and I had just walked by three that could. So we end up ith the tables in the corners of the room, with a 10 fireplace hearth between us, so too far away to carry on a normal conversation. So it is Nugget, Flash, Boot Strap, Sorceress and I at table #1 and the Indy1, TinkerBoo, Swimlover and Eeyore at table #2. We see a waiter approach table #2 and figure that he will come over to ours next, well not exactly. As TinkerBoo is informing us that the waiter tells them they cannot do one check for both tables, a waitress walks up to our table and informs us that she will be serving us tonight, Great two servers. What is that I am feeling a Magical Gathering not really, but Sorceress edited what I really wanted to say.
So we explain that we are together and could we get one check for the two tables and the answer is NO from our waitress Ms. Sassy Pants. Not only No but she followed it with Do you want to speak to my manager? No, we dont need to speak to the manager
We informed her that the reason we would like one check is because we have a Cast Member from Disneyland and we were hoping to be able to use the Cast Member discount for the meal, and would we still be able to get the discount on both checks? Ms. Sassy Pants replies with You cant use the Cast Member discount until after 8:30 p.m.. We told her that we had not heard that before that we had been using it since we arrived at all hours of the day and never had a problem before. Ms. Sassy Pants responds with Thats the policy. Do you want to speak to my manager? MAGICAL YET AGAIN. We declined the visit with the manager yet again and figure that it wasnt a big deal to pay two checks and not get the discount. So we proceed to try and enjoy our dinner. Table #2 gets their drink order, and are laughing with the their waiter, Table #1 has yet to be asked about drinks, Table #2 starts getting food delivered, Table #1s drink orders are being taken, Table #2 is getting seconds of their favorites, Table #1 has drinks no food, see where this is going? Our server was mediocre at best, the service was slow and with far less than a cheerful attitude; the kids said that their waiter was really good. So we (I) try and enjoy our meal, our table for 5 is so small that we can not get everything on the table, I literally had to pull an extra chair that was sitting on the fireplace up to the side of the table to put food on that would not fit on the table. Our server would bring another dish to the table see that there was no place to set it on the table and just hand it to one of us with saying a word and then walk away. It was not my most enjoyable dinning experience at a Disney eating establishment.
We did have some great interaction with the following characters, Goofy, Chip, Dale and Minnie in fact I think they all made it around twice to both tables.
Here are Swimlover and Eeyore with Goofy
Indy1 with the main Mouses Girl
So, just when you think that there cannot be any more drama Ms. Sassy Pants hands me the bill and makes the following statement. Its not my fault its the policy. Thinking she is referring to the issue with the Cast Member discount I let the comment go, when we open the bill we see that an 18% gratuity has been added to our bill and the kids bill. I inquiry as to why the gratuity has already been added to the bills and Ms. Sassy Pants replies Because you are a party of 9 MAGICAL Excuse me, but we havent been a party of 9 since we walked in the door, why are we all of sudden a party of 9 when the bill gets here? She replies That is the policy no matter how many tables you are at. Do you want to speak to my manager? YES, as a matter of fact I do this time.
After about a 15 minute wait, the manager walks up and says she understands that we are upset because we didnt get to use a Cast Member discount. As I am about to inform her that is not the problem she precedes to tell me that her General Manager is in the back printing out the policy about the discount as we speak. I inform her that the issue is with the gratuity being added to the check. She stated that it is policy that if a party registers as a party of 8 or more that the gratuity is automatically added, no matter how many tables that party may end up sitting at. Okay it was not easy for me to do for the third time this trip, but I could tell this was not going to go good at all, so I told her that we were not happy with the events of the evening and thought she should know that and proceed to pay the bills before the vain on my forehead exploded. I would have gladly giving the kids server more than an 18% tip, which we did, however I would not have given our waitress near that much.
There was a division in the group as to the quality of the food, it was pretty well split 50-50 I think, not that anyone thought it was bad, but some of us thought that is was just average with the other half rating it above average. I did not think it was worth the price of over $300.00 for the meal.
After our Magical dinner we headed outside to a light drizzle (only precipitation of the trip)
Nugget and TinkerBoo with the California Redneck Umbrella
and headed over to the Haunted Mansion for a ride with ghost. With our hitchhiking ghost in tow we headed over to Fantasyland and Mickey's PhilharMagic. When the band concert was finished we decided to head to Tomorrowland for a ride on Space Mountain, but when we got there the wait was almost an hour so we passed and headed out to Main Street to exit and catch a launch back to the lodge and in bed by around 11:00 p.m.
Not quite as long a day today, really enjoyed the pool time in the morning, and the evening at the Magic Kingdom, not so much the Magical Liberty Tree Tavern dinner, but tomorrow is another day. No set plans for tomorrow as of yet.
