Not sure if this is the best forum for this but I have a bit of a odd situation. I was in a car accident last year. It is currently in litigation. My treating physician said I am physically able to travel and my attorney said I could travel but I needed to be home for any court dates or court ordered doctor's appointments. I called Alliantz Insurance and they said they would cover trip cancellation for any court dates that are scheduled after booking, but not court ordered doctor's appointments. Does anybody know of any trip insurance companies that would cover those appointments?
Try Insure My Trip dot com. They sell policies for multiple companies, and you can ask questions online. Also, I believe that there is a law requiring a 10 day fully refundable purchase and look provision for travel insurance. So if you buy the policy and review it carefully, and it doesn't have what you need, you can get all your money back.
The website noted above has a page for information on trip cancellation vs. cancel for any reason insurance, but this board won't let me post the link.
We cover a lot of court cases and at least here it is the norm for the Court to schedule hearings and orders like medical appointments around the availability of the party involved. So having to work your vacation around last minute court dates and court ordered medical appointments wouldn't happen here. That's why they say the "Wheels of Justice Roll Slowly". And it is not unheard of for a hearing to be set and the Judge doesn't find out someone isn't available until that hearing. They just reschedule. So I can see why it might be tough to get Travel Insurance to cover canceling a trip for something that can routinely be rescheduled and make the cancellation unnecessary.
Thank you all for your advice. I ended up not needing the trip insurance. The airfare had no change fee so I could cancel and and get a credit good until the end of 2022. The hotel has a cancelation fee of 1 night if canceled within 72 hours of arrival and the rental car if fully refundable. So if I had to cancel last minute, worst case I'd be out about $150 which is less than the cost of adding insurance.
