When we took our cruise we bought the trip insurance because of the risk of losing our money if we had to cancel at the last minute.

We got the TravelGuard info on our May 2005 trip to SSR....first trip home!...and it's looking like a good idea. Anybody have info on it and what it actually covers? The flyer wasn't real informative.

They will refund you the (not so) generous sum of $5 per point for any points lost.

Note that in cases like the recent hurricanes, DVC allowed people to work outside of the normal rules and cancel trips with no penalty. They even allowed people to bank points that could not be used, ignoring the normal banking windows.

I don't even know exactly what circumstances must be met in order for you to file a claim. But I can't imaging ever paying for such insurance myself.

They pay you $5 per point. You do not get the points reinstated. I think some people think the insurance will restore their points to their account. Even if you tried to rent holding account points, you could get probably more than $5 per point. Plus the premium is .25 per point. So on a 200 point reservation, you would pay $50 in premium and get $1,000 reimbursement in case of a claim. The only time I would consider it is if you are using a large amount of points at the end of your use year.
