I am considering renting DVC points to stay at the Poly this coming June. I know that we would need trip insurance due to an almost ruined vacation this year. Does anyone have any suggestions for travel insurance companies? I am hoping to rent through David's and I saw that they do have a company they recommend. I just wasn't sure if this is my best (or only) option.

TIA!

I always purchase insurance through insure my trip . com They allow you to input your dates, travelers, trip costs, etc. then will give you a number of policies from different companies to choose from. They have great customer service.

You probably know, but renting points is different than booking a regular reservation. Read vry carefully and ask questions to make sure the insurance would actually cover what you need it to.

Why wouldn't you just book a regular hotel room where the cancelation policy is far more lenient?

Because the price savings on a DVC resort can be nearly 40% when renting points!

We used allianz I believe last time we rented points.

We have used AIG Travelguard successfully in the past. My wife had to be admitted tot he hospital and they paid the extra hotel, airfare, AND the hospital co-pay. In all we got a check for about $2300. No push back at all. I submitted all the require paperwork and was paid within 2 weeks.

Travelguard has been very good to us. On our '12 WDW trip, We were excessively delayed leaving MCO and had to book four rooms at the airport Hyatt. We kept the receipts, submitted them and were reimbursed for the roone and our meals until we caught our flght the next day. On our last trip to LA, we missed our plan because of flooding from a storm and were reimbursed for the flight change cost.

The thing about Travel Insurance is that you can cancel if you have a reason for canceling that is covered by the policy. It's not like Disney, where you can cancel up to 45 days before for whatever reason without a penalty or up to 5 days before for $200.

I've thought many times about renting points, but say if things are busy at work or something else comes up and I need to shift the dates slightly, I would not be able to do so with renting points.

Thank you everyone for your replies!

As someone else already said, I am interested in renting points because the cost is so much lower than booking through Disney direct. I understand that I can only cancel "if" I have reason and not for "any" reason but that is ok with me. I am a teacher and can only travel in the summer. My husband's job only allows for vacation during the school year as his busy time is summer. His boss allows him to take vacations in early/mid June because of my job. We would never cancel a trip without a medical reason or emergency.

Thanks again!!
