just booked a trip for my son and his friends using our DVC membership. I will not be there, will he be able to access the discounts and perks of being a member? Anything I can do ahead of time to set up for him

He won't be able to. I assume he doesn't have a membership card?

He doesn't, is there a way to add him onto , is that wise at this point he is 18 and I have. 16 years old son as well

As far as I know, if he isn't on the deed, he cannot get a card. I am not sure the process of getting him onto the deed but I am sure it will cost some money and outweigh the discounts he would get while there.

The issue with putting him on the deed is it becomes his asset. If he ever declares bankruptcy or gets divorced, your DVC could be at risk. The other thing is once he's on the deed he can make reservations, so you have to trust him - and whatever partner he eventually picks because s/he may be more selfish than you want.

It may also be counted as an asset for college aid if he's on the deed.

It takes time and it's not worth it for this one trip. I generally recommend against it or to chose to do so very carefully. That said, I added my adult daughter to our smaller account but not our larger one and not my son.

I was once an 18 year old and did STUPID money things. The very last things my parents needed was to add me to any sort of deed they had.

The perks aren't worth it.

I'm the associate member on DH's account, and I don't get the perks if I'm there alone FWIW.
