OMG, I just listened to last weeks show (been a little busy ) and heard Corey talk about Trip Advisor. I swear by that site and use it everywhere (except disney) that I go. It has never let me down. I find it doesn't work very well in small towns or even some mid-small towns, but anytime we go on vacation it is fabulous.

I love trip advisor too. I have found tons of great stuff on there for my non-disney trips- restaurants, hotels, activities, it's great.

Although I prefer this site for Disney info obviously...sometimes I go on and look at the Disney Hotel reviews, because it is interesting to see the opinions of Non-Disney fanatics in comparison to DISers who might have their opinions tainted by their crazy love for Disney .

There is never a hotel, nor a tour or a restaurant in a different city now that I don't research on TripAdvisor. I have submitted a few reviews as well, so I highly, highly recommend that website for anything non-Disney travel related!! Good forums as well - especially when you run across areas of travel that may not have communities dedicated to them.

Actually, edited to say - we are staying one night in Orlando, coming in around midnight and leaving to Cape Canaveral on NYE for a cruise. We didn't care where we stayed because we'd be there a grand total of like 10 hours, so we used Priceline and got the Omni Championsgate. Got lucky enough that it has fabulous reviews on TA Even though it's offsite (we plan on eating breakfast at the Kona Cafe the next morning though), I am excited about the hotel now!

Haha, that got me laughing because I know what you mean. Sometimes when I am planning other trips I find myself saying "I wish there was a DIS for this place!"

it's been very helpful to us too!!

I would never have found the hotel in chicago that DD and i totally loved, if not for tripadvisor!

and i used it with great success in New York for DD's solo trip and our trip to Austin together.

Yup, I second that. I love Trip Advisor, and use it for everywhere but Disney. I will say though that sometimes the hotel reviews are a little hyper-critical. However, I've been using it to plan our Williamsburg, VA trip next week. They even have a discussion forum that I've been following for Williamsburg. It's pretty funny though when a thread gets something like 1 post a week. I'm so used to the speed of the DIS.

Some of the forums move fast, I'm using it a lot for New York. When I went to Hawaii those forums went pretty quick. The forums are great for getting insider tips and great places to eat.

I like TripAdvisor too, and have posted a few reviews there myself.

But, I think it's important to take the reviews with a grain of salt and to remember that it's just someone else's opinion.

Living in a tourist town myself, (Sarasota) I find it fascinating to read the 'out of towner' reviews of all the restaurants and hotels I know so well. Many times, some of what are in my opinion the best restaurants in town get absolutely dreadful reviews. ("You couldn't pay us to eat there again !") when in fact it's usually a place with good to great food at reasonable prices.

I'd hate to think that some folks would avoid a place just based on what they read online.

You never know until you try it for yourself.

I've never really used it before, but I've been using it a lot recently to plan our trip to CA. I'm glad to hear many other people have used it with great success...puts me at ease!

We go to Acadia National Park two - three times a year. For the past ten years, we have stayed at a small, basic, inexpensive family run motel about five miles from downtown Bar Harbor.

A year ago, the owner asked me - if I was willing - to post a review on trip Advisor. He was trying to get his motel to show up a little higher in the listings.

I was happy to help him out.

Another Trip Advisor lover. I used it extensively for a trip to Peru this past May and found it better than any other site I checked out.
Very helpful information, but as with any site, take personal opinions/reviews with a grain of salt.

I always try to look for consistency among reviews. I try to look up places that have a significant number of reviews as well. Just a couple of good tips when looking through the site to make your decision

I absolutely LOVE Trip Advisor. I use it all the time for non-Disney trips. One of my favorite things is that I have found some really great non-big chain hotels through them. Hotels that might not show up on sites like Expedia or Travelocity. Just recently I learned about Drury Inns from reading Trip Advisor. NEVER heard of them before, but apparently they are a fantastic small family run chain and they get rave reviews. I never would have found them if it wasn't for Trip Advisor.

We definitely look at it whenever we travel, and I always try to post a review from wherever we stay. It is really helpful!

My boss and his family were trying to make some decisions on a Mexican vacation at one of the all-inclusive resorts. He found Trip Advisor to be very helpful - I especially like it when users post photos of the different hotels.
