Trip Advisor Reviews of the Yacht Club.....

But when someone says "Our Pirate Room was literally a mile and a half from the main pool and took us 40 minutes to walk there at a quick pace" I am going to call BS.

Completely agree with this. And like I said before, I have never seen anyone get roasted here on the DIS for telling it like it is. But I have seen people get called out when they tell others to stay away from a resort because they had an issue and didn't give the resort a chance to fix it.

lol very true. I actually like hyperbole but if you're going to use it, you definitely can't use the word "literally" in the same sentence.

but I do kinda stand by my original intent, I do think the reason why you rarely see any review that is less than glowing is that many folks, if they've been here long enough simply don't want to have to bother.

my reviews here are watered down version of what i put on tripadvisors. I know here that something as simple as saying the resort rugs were dirty can lead to interesting discussions.

Glad you haven't run across that.

I have to laugh at this because we stayed in a pirate room and with 2 little kids it totally felt like mile and a half to the food court!!! But I know it wasn't so I wouldn't put that in a review.

The rooms at YC are looking a little tired.... Which is why they're getting a hard goods refurbishment in 2016.

The only useful part of TA for me regarding Disney hotels are the traveler photos. If you can find recent ones, it'll give you a good idea of what the rooms/common areas/grounds look like.

BC rooms were fully refurbished in 2015, and they're gorgeous.

We have stayed at the YC twice this year, July and December. It is our new favorite resort (tied with the Poly). The rooms are spacious, and I did not find them dated. I had read about wear and tear, but our rooms had no major issues. One room had a closet door that was off the track, but the valet showing us to our room called maintenance and it was fixed almost immediately. The staff has been excellent, the room layout is very convenient for unpacking, and pool and location can't be beat. We did notice construction noise in December. A room was being renovated directly above us. It was only there during the afternoon. I decided our room location was worth just ignoring the noise for the hour or so we were I. The room and heard it.

You should keep in mind, as other's have mentioned, staying in a deluxe at disney is not going to be like staying in a Four Seasons. I've stayed in almost all the deluxe resorts other than WL and SS and have stayed in a number of Four Seasons, Four Seasons is going to beat WDW hands down. I have also stayed in a few Ritz Carlton's for the same price as a WDW deluxe and the rooms at the Ritz were small, the service worse and the room in worse condition. For that matter, if you stay in a value in WDW and pay $110 a night for a room, you might have a little price shock since the rooms are not any better than (and in some cases worse than) a HI Express which you can get for $50 a night in some places. It's all a matter of perspective, you are in the Disney bubble, you get their transportation and other perks of staying on property. It is really a matter of personal preferences, I love YC, don't like BWI. BWI has been recently renovated, just don't like the feel of the place. I wouldn't stay at CR if you paid me to, just don't like the look and feel of the place but others love it. I don't like the Poly, we loved it when my son was younger but it's just too busy for us now. We love the GF but frankly, I'm not a fan of the monorail, and while it's a nice resort and the rooms are nice, it's just not worth an extra couple of hundred dollars a night to stay there. Loved AKL, beautiful resort, we stayed in a one bedroom villa so I can't speak to the lodge rooms but our room was spacious and you can't beat that lobby and the animals. We are Epcot/HS people and park hop so having to take the bus all the time just gets old for us. Do what will make you comfortable, it's your vacation and you should enjoy everything. I wouldn't switch because of a few bad reviews though, as other's have said, it's possible most people who post on Travelocity have never stayed at a WDW resort and didn't know what to expect.

I wouldn't consider staying somewhere and not checking trip advisor. I just looked at the latest reviews for Yacht Club and there were definitely more glowing reviews than negative. Plus, I really enjoy looking at the pictures that the travelers take.

I just wanted to add that we stayed at YC last summer and had a tremendous experience. Our room was in good repair and suited our needs well. As others have pointed out, it's not the luxury you'd get off site, but we were there for the parks and pool. It was a nice place to return to every evening and rest our heads.

While I personally like the dark woods and nautical theme, I do recognize that it isn't as breathtaking as some of the other resorts (AKL, WL, GF), but it is very comfortable and warm. What really makes it deluxe is the location. It's hard to beat being within walking distance of Epcot's WS and all that great food and entertainment. Being by the lake is wonderful and you have the BW and BC nearby for food options. Do take some time to look at a layout of the hotel and request an area that works best for you. We liked being by the lobby on the first floor because it was close to the pool, bus, boats, and walkways to the parks.

The refurb will be very nice. It could use an update in some areas, but I didn't see anything that ruined my experience. I'd be perfectly happy to stay at the YC again.

Trip Advisor is also my go to site for hotel reviews. I more so pay attention to reviews that follow a particular trend and I filter out ones that are to the extreme on either end, especially if it's from a reviewer with no other reviews which is a red flag that there may be a motive behind the review. I also really like looking at recent traveler photos to get a glimpse of what the hotel rooms and grounds look like which gives me an overall feel for the place. Lastly, as far as written reviews go, I think it may seem like there are more negative reviews of the Disney resorts on Trip Advisor than positive ones because negative reviews tend to stand out.

I haven't stayed at the YC, but have stayed at the BC. I also use Tripadvisor a lot. I always go by overall ranking given the number of reviews compared to others in the ranking. No matter what the individual reviews you've read, what is the ranking. I just looked and the Yacht Club is #69 of 336 hotels rated in Orlando--that's pretty good IMO. Also, the number of reviews in comparison to others rated--the Yacht Club has 1,789 reviews--that's a very big number. The Beach Club is #58 with 2,158 reviews. IMO this is about the same, I wouldn't worry about either. You compare this to the current #8 and 9 hotels on the Tripadvisor list of Orlando hotels--you see that the #8 only has 177 reviews and the #9 has 326--I would be worried about both of these with such a small number of reviews comparatively speaking and would go with YC or BC even though they have a lower ranking. Due to the number of reviews--greater chance that you have an honest overview. The only way I would switch to the BC at this point is if you got a better deal and saved a good deal of money. I'm sure you will have a fabulous time at the YC and I hope your husband has a great 65th!

Our YC CL lagoon view room was great and our second favorite resort room. We liked YC more than BC. Of course that was in 2013, and I do understand that YC is or is going to be soon going through refurb.

We loved YC and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

And this is why I'd switch to the BC if you're going to be there during the renovations, OP. Unless of course you'll be spending zero time at the resort during the day. Then it doesn't matter!

Exactly this. We are YC fans and I am a large advocate of Trip Advisor. I do take Trip Advisor with a grain of salt though. But good traveler pics. The DIS boards are a great resource for info. Because the YC rooms are in need of refurb - we are switching to the BC this summer.

Completely agree with this. And like I said before, I have never seen anyone get roasted here on the DIS for telling it like it is. But I have seen people get called out when they tell others to stay away from a resort because they had an issue and didn't give the resort a chance to fix it.

Completely roasted? Maybe not. But I've seen people admonished simply for not knowing that calling the front desk, doesn't actually call the front desk.

We love the both BC/YC very much. We love that you have a great chance at getting a terrace at the YC. As for the club levels since the BC CL lounge refurbishment -there is no comparison. The BC CL lounge is huge and has a great variety. We last stayed there in Feb 2015. It was lovely. We do like the CMs at the YC CL better though. They were so friendly and accommodating at the YC. Not that the CMs at the BC weren't nice - they just weren't friendly and if you asked for something it took a while to get it. After the YC CL gets refurbished - I would chose the YC but now I would probably pick the BC CL. If you can't switch - you will have a nice time at the YC. We never had a bad room - they definitely need to be redone but they were always clean. Also say hello to Regina at the YC CL - she is truly a gem. The most helpful CM we know.

I love Trip Advisor, I never stay anywhere without checking their reviews first. I find them to be on-point/accurate for both Disney and non-Disney resorts.
