Tried to read all the "must read first" threads but still confused about renting out points

I am so so sorry that I don't know what I'm doing here. I tried reading all the threads about buying plans to post point rental offers, etc., but I am still confused on what to do. Please Forgive my density!

In a nutshell, I'm a DVC owner of (details removed. (since roughly 2007?). Our UY is December. We are looking to do a one-time rent out of all our Dec. 2024 UY points.

1. As I think I understand it, in order to post any offer, I have to first buy at least a "Silver" plan for 29.95 yearly, which gives you 3 threads a year. (Maximum 30 day posting?). Do I have this basic understanding correct?

2. Can I assume I can borrow points from my DEC. UY 2024 in the off chance someone wanted to buy and/or use the points prior to Dec. 1? Otherwise, if I offer now for someone planning a post Dec. 1 2024 trip (and before Nov. 30, 2025), Or do I simply just transfer/rent the points whenever I get someone to accept an offer and just borrow as needed to make the transaction? So when should I post, knowing I only get 30 days?

Sorry I'm so clueless. I won't blame you for belittling how ignorant I am in even speaking the right language--I haven't rented points for at least a decade and I'm aging rapidly. Please be as gentle as possible in setting me straight.

Have a magical day :)

Not a board expert on rental plans, but I have rented on the boards a few times. Your understanding seems correct for the Silver plan.

When you post, you post the number of points that you want to rent and then field the requests from those that respond until the number of points you want to rent have been rented. You can borrow the points if something is available for some time before December 2024, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you get paid for the points before you borrow them. I think it would be better to just find someone that wants something after December 1, 2024.

I think posting now would be a good time to post your Dec. 2024 points because the 7 month window is at the end of January 2025 now.

Removed the details of resort and number of points. That info is not allowed.

@CarolMN and @Chuck S oversee the rent and transfer process so they can help with specifics!

With the silver plan, you can post up to a maximum of three threads* during the year of your plan, each thread will be open for one month, and then will be closed. The 30 day requirement is applies if you are offering an existing reservation for rent. No existing reservation may be offered/posted prior to 30 days before check-in, unless the Platimun or Premium plan is purchased.

*With the silver plan, ONE of the three threads may be to offer an existing reservation at 30 days out. The other two MUST be Points for Rent, Points for Rent/Transfer or Points for Transfer thread. Or you may chose to use all three for Points for Rent. Transfer, or Rent/Transfer.

I hope that explains it better.

Thank you both, and sorry for unintentionally breaking the post rules about point specifics, etc. I apologize. I do have a follow up question, however--related to houseofduck's assertion that now would be a good time to rent points for the following use year. But I'm concerned about that. In order to help make a reservation for points to use in my NEXT UY (not this one--the following one), I would have to borrow from the following use year. That "works" of course. But what happens to those points if the renter has to cancel 31 days out from their vacation (which happens to occur in my NEXT UY) and I try to get my points returned? My understanding is that once you "borrow" points, you have to use them in the USE YEAR into which they were used to make the reservation--which is this CURRENT use year. So, doesn't that mean I'd lose all of those points??? Does my question make sense?

If I understood correctly, you have a December use year and you want to rent 2024 use year points. So, reservations falling after December 1, 2024 would be using points from the 2024 use year. The date of the reservation determines which use year points are being used not the date when you make the reservation. So, if I have December 2024 points and make a reservation today for Feb. 3-10, 2025, I would be using my December 2024 use year points. Since the 7 month window is now at February 2025, you are in a good position to rent points with a December 2024 use year.

I cautioned against making reservations for stays prior to December 1, 2024 because you would have to borrow points in that situation. I would not borrow points because as you said, you would have a hard time using those points if things don't work out. Borrowed points stay in the use year they were borrowed into and do not go back into their original use year.

IF the reservation you are making are within the next use year (ie I have a June Use Year, and reservation I make for June 1, 2025 or later) would be in the June 2025 use year) there is no borrowing needed.

If you are making reservations within THIS use year, and borrow points to do so, those points could be re-banked and would expire at the staert of their use year, as banking and borrowing are final transaction, whether you cancel 31 days out or not.

For instance I currently have a reservation for September 2024, some of the points are borrowed, if I cancel that reservation, the points remain in my 2024 use year and can not ne banked, even though my June 2024 pont banking deadline is January 31, 2025. I'd have to use those points for reservations days prior to June 1, 2025.

If I cancel that reservation within 30 days of checkin, then those points ALSO go into holding, meaning I'd have to use those points for reservation no more than 60 days prior to check-in AND before June 1, 2025.

Any points borrowed are stuck so if one does that you want to be sure your terms account for that.

The few times we rented everything was non refundable and had to be paid in full within 24 to 48 hours once they got the confirmation.

If I was borrowing points, then I would have requested 50% upfront before even booking. But, I don’t think I’d actually rent with borrowed points.

Ok, yeah, that's what I thought...but when I went in to my account and did a mock exercise like I was booking a reservation for Jan. 2025, it looked like it said I had to "borrow" points to make it work. But maybe I did that wrong. I'll try again and see if I understand it better--or I'll take a screen shot...

If you have a December use year and you have points in the 2024 use year to cover the reservation for January 2025, you should not have to borrow.

(I updated my previous post because I realized I used a December 2024 date, but should have used a 2025 date to make my point.)
