Tricky Point Question

I have an August use year and all 2003 points will be gone with our Aug 2003 trip.

In order to have a shot at a GV at OKW (we have BCV) I would need to do the bank and borrow deal to get 300% of my points.

So given the above conditions when the heck can I start trying? I am flexible on the dates but I want to plan for when I can try.

I'm coming up with January '05. Is that right or is it '06?

Normally, I read the points questions and think they are easy but this one is making my hair hurt!

You would have to bank your August 2004 points, so your stay would have to be between August 1, 2005 and July 31, 2006. So you could call at 7 months for August 2005 in January 2005.

Since you will have used all of your Aug 2003 Use Year points- you will have to bank the Aug 2004 points , use the Aug 2005 and borrow the August 2006 points to have 300% of your points for a reservation dated anytime between August 1, 2005 and July 31, 2006.

Depending on the dates you are looking for, you may also need to find an OKW owner willing to make that reservation 11 months ahead or else depend entirely on the 7 month window.

Good Luck! :)

Thanks. That is what I thought but Iwanted to be sure. How do you trade with another member when it involves banked and borrowed points? Does it have to be for the whole amount or just any amount of points?

The details of a trade would need to be agreed upon by the members. You could make a reservation for the other member in their name or you could transfer as many points as possible and pay the difference in cash or any other combination that you would both find suitable.

Good Luck!

You have a tough problem. Waiting till the seven month window with no reservation in hand for the very difficult to get OKW GV is a gamble. especially after having banked one year and borrowed the third. What if its not available? Waitlist? What if it doesn't come through?

Your other choice is trading with an OKW owner. Since your points are coming from three seperate use years, I don't see this as doable.

Renting out your points and renting OKW points. I don't think you are going to be able to do this timing wise. Its probably your best shot.

The dates have been confirmed. I just wanted to sugget you go ahead and book something you can use at your 11 month window. Depending on the number if your party, maybe you could book a 2 BR ± a studio at BCV. Then when the 7 month window comes around, you could see what things are looking like at OKW for a GV and if it looks promising, start cancelling a day at a time at BCV as you get the GV. If some days don' come through you could wait list them keeping the appropriate BCV days just in case.

another "point" to think about.....

If you are travelling with a large group, be aware that if you end up switching properties during your stay, and you are purchasing length of stay passes you will end up having a LOS at one property and needing to purchase a new one at the new property you are switching to.

This could result in your paying an excessive amount for access to the parks. Your options are to purchase an anuual pass or purchase seperate park hoppers and use it accordingly.

This is a recureing problem that my wife and I first experiened in '99. We were down this past December and I was able to take advantage attending the annual meeting. I brought this point up and ohhhhhhh to my suprise they admitted that that is n issue they are trying to resolve. At the end of the meeting the GM and other mngrs came right up to me to discuss the issue further.

any how... just be sure to do your math in pricing your passes, i tmay be cheaper to go annual.

While true, there are also some advantages. Since they will almost always drop both the first and last day, you may end up with a day or so less than you would otherwise. That gives you a day or more to do other things while not paying for the parks. This assumes all stays are at DVC resorts.

How many points do you have? You could actually try to book part of your stay thru to the end of July 2005 with Aug 2004 points and the rest of your stay in the beginning of Aug 2005 with Aug 2005 and Aug 2006 points...OR for a total max out--you could wait until July 2006 and use all your Aug 2004 points up before the end of July 2006, then use Aug 2005, Aug 2006 and borrow from Aug 2007 to use up to 400% of your Aug points-if you really were determined to use as many as possible to get a GV. This is a drawback to having BCV points (or VWL) that there is no GV option and you are at the mercy of a waitlist in all likelihood.

To book at your NON home resort that means you would try in January of the year you are going- also remember that August use year allows you until the end of January to Bank 100% of your points-you could bank half and then 25% by end of April and the last 25% by end of May

Unfortunately Paul, that's not correct IF I READ YOUR POST AS YOU INTENDED, if not I apologize. The banking percentages are inclusive. I think that you are saying that you can bank an additional amount at each banking window and that is not correct. If you get to the 3-6 months you can only bank 50% of the total for that year. that means if you bank 50% in the first half of the year, you cannot bank any in the 3-6 months (50% banking) window. Likewise, once you get in the 2-3 month (25% banking) window, if you've banked at least 25% before, you cannot bank any more points. Again I apologize if I was misreading your post and you intended to say what I did.
