Tree exchange in Dec

I have heard about the tree exchange in Dec. We will be at AKV for the first week in Dec and I am debating trying this or buying a cheap tree at Wal-Mart when we do our shopping to stock the kitchen. Has anyone done this? How soon do you need to signup for it? With a trip planned Dec 4 to the 14th would I be starting it or in the middle of the exchange? How did you like it? What did you not like about it?

Sign ups for those who are not donating a tree begins today. Even if you are the first to be using the tree, you do not have to be the ones donating the tree. We've been part of the tree exchange since '03, when we made our first DVC visit at VWL for a weekend. At that time, we then delivered the tree on to OKW. Now the project has grown (thank you wdwstar and elf Jim) so there are trees for just about every resort, and in many cases more than one tree.

There are no downsides that I can think of!
