We've booked a trip in May leaving the day after DD1's 4th birthday :swingpants: She doesn't know about it and we'd like to tell her by doing a treasure hunt on the birthday. I'm sure you'd all have some fantastic ideas for clues and I'm definitely looking for some inspiration! Cheap or free ideally. They don't need to be practical items, though that wouldn't be a bad thing, it's just for fun.

So far I've got or planned:
A toy model of Capt Hook in his pirate ship;
A Disney Princess castle shaped helium balloon;
An aeroplane of some kind;
Maybe something Bambi related as we're staying at the SL

And what else?

Ending in a shiny invitation to DLP with some kind of ticket inside it, for which I'm browsing the DISigns board.

I am doing simalar thing for hubbies surprise 30th birthday trip in June! So would love some ideas too!
Are you going by eurostar? I emailed them and they sent me some comp slips to use with Happy birthday on one and bon voyage with eurostar and paris on others. Maybe you could email them and see if they have any they could send you?

I will have a think for you about more ideas

How about something Toy Story related and Winnie the Pooh related.

If you want practical items ideas are

T shirt or other item of clothing
Hat/Sun hat
Toothbrush
Bag - either little suitcase or small bag for items for the journey
Stickers/Books/Colouring books
Small Princess items - tiara/jewellery

On one of the occasions we surprised DD we bought her a new Cinderella suitcase and had it packed ready. Then when she opened it there was a letter from Belle and a small Minnie Plush right at the top.

We're going in May and it will the be day after our DD's birthday too, although she'll be 8 :goodvibes

We're planning on telling them a couple of weeks beforehand (if I can wait that long!) and I'm also planning on doing a sort of treasure hunt. I'll be gathering up all their Disney toys and then leaving them around the house, each with a clue that leads on to the next one. Each toy will also have a piece of jigsaw which, when put together, will say "We are going to Disneyland in ? days" They'll then have to go and find the last clue which will tell them the number of days to go.

Not that I've thought about it or anything :rolleyes1

Can't wait...9 weeks and counting :woohoo:

I can't think of anything much more than you have got but all the ideas sound fabulous! :goodvibes How about a new Disney sunhat and sunglasses - you can pick them up quite cheaply at Asda/Sainsburys/Primark etc, as part of the clues...?

I still haven't sorted out what I am going to do to tell my children (on the morning we go). I have bought them both bags each and various little Disney bits to go in them so they will figure in it somehow :).

On our last trip my DDs were quite young but I bought a giant, helium, Mickey head balloon, and tied an invitation to them both from Mickey to his birthday party (it was Mickey's Magical Party celebrations), to the bottom of the weight along with two little Mickey plushes. They loved it and for their ages, it was exciting enough for them.

I'm thinking more and more about the treasure hunt as I write this though, (might borrow the idea from you) as they are a little older now and love treasure hunts (and can now read of course, well one of them can!) :cool1: Great idea :thumbsup2.

How about an autograph book for them to use when you are there? Or a disney pin?

Loads of great ideas, thank you! The jigsaw sounds fantastic, I'll have to remember that for when they're older. The balloons as well :-)

I was in Tesco earlier and found a chocolate handbag as part of their Mother's Day range. Thought I might rewrote the box in Disney paper and pass it off as a suitcase.

I'm going to make an autograph book if i get time. We've never gotten signatures before so that will be exciting. I found a chunky Belle pen in a discount bookshop a couple of months ago to go with it.
