I am thinking of buying a treadmill. I saw one at Sears that caught my daughters eyes when she saw it comes with weights. The cost was about $400. What do I need to know about treadmills before I invest. What is the price range I should be looking in? This would be are first exercise equipment, is there something else we should start with?

Thanks Tigger

I dont really know whats best and whats bad, but when I was looking for one recently, I found a Proform at Sears that was 399.00 and met my requirements. We got it and I absolutely love it. I walk on it 5 days a week and when the weather isnt cooperating I run on it too(I run 7 days/week). In fact I just did it this morning and wanted to keep going when my time was up. It really makes my jog enjoyable. And whenI pop in a video of one of our trips the times just flies by. It was a very good investment for me. :D

Consumer Reports just did a story on treadmills. Check out the latest copy or see what might be available on their website. I think you can get a one month subscription to their website for about $5 if you can't find the recent issue. Its probably money well spent.

Also, make sure the treadmill you purchase will carry your weight. Not all of them go up to or over 200 lbs.

We have one and it has helped me a lot. But once the weather got better, I started doing my walking/running outside. Trying to do 3 or 4 miles on a treadmill can be VERRRRRRRRY boring. Make sure you can set it up in front of the TV or a window.

Camcolt, the one you bought is the same brand asa we are looking at. Same price also. I will give it some more consieration. I used to buy consumer reports but now I just check the library when I think of it. I will check it out.

Thanks everyone

How about the Gazette device? Anyone heard of it or used it?

Thanks Tigger

Did you get the treadmill?

We bought one last year and have hardly used it. However, we just this weekend moved it to a (hopefully) better location and I did use it tonight for the first time in ages.

Deb&Bill's advice about setting it up in front of TV or window is righton! Our new location allows T.V. viewing and using it tonight for the first time being able to view television made the time go by so quickly.

Good luck with what you decide. I think a treadmill is a good first exercise equipment investment.... as long as it is utilized, otherwise it is a waste of money. Please wish me well in using ours in its new location. I really hate thinking about that money being wasted. - Gotta stay motivated.

Pro Form is a good brand of exercise equipment and the price sounds about average. One thing to make sure is that it is electronic and as we bought one years ago and the only way to use it was by foot power. May sound strange as far as exercise goes, but it makes a big difference.

I totally agree! We had a manual one for years and hated it. It was torture to use. But the new one I talked about is a motorized one and its a totally different experience. :D

I still have not purchased one yet . Thanks for the advice everyone. I will likely go for the Proform and set it up in the living room. If only I could get on the Dis while on it. I would be on it for hours.

I run 25 miles a week but can only manage about 10 minutes on a treadmill.

Do you have running clubs in the states? Thats who I run with, and the time flys by as I am gossiping all the way around. Also when we do the hard stuff, long runs and speed training, having others there with you is motivational.
