When you walk or run on the treadmill, what speed and incline do you use?

I'm trying to work my way up, but currently I do best with a 6.0 incline and 3.5 speed. I try really hard to do this for 45 minutes each time, but I do find myself lowering the incline and speed as the time goes by.

I usually use a 11.5 or 12.0 incline, with a speed of 3.4 - 3.6, for 40-60 minutes. Great workout.

I always go around 3.6 for speed

.Usually around 30 minutes every day.

I vary the speed and incline throughout the workout. I think you get a better workout this way. I tend to do speeds between 3.3 and 3.6 or so, keeping in mind I'm only 5'2" so short legs. I laugh when I'm next to a taller person and we're doing similar speeds but I'm scrambling! LOL!

whatever you do, try to go from less intense, to more intense, and back again.

My dd has made me promise not to ever get on a treadmill again. I had a treadmill accident that she witnessed. I sometimes have problems walking on ground that doesn't move, I don't know what I was thinking about getting on a treadmill.

Good luck finding a speed and incline that works for you, Grinningghost.:)

It's actually quite miraculous that I can walk on a treadmill at all Shannon. With my MS, I can barely stand without falling over!;) The constant movement makes it easier for me to stay upright, or at least that's my guess.

I've also recently discovered that I can still ride a bike. But if I go too slow, I fall off. So if it ain't a high endurance day - I stay off the bike.:p

wow you guys make me look bad. I do 3.0 speed at no incline or holding the button down a little bit (my treadmill doesn't have an incline readout - I just push a button and it goes up or down) usually for a half hour at a time (1.5miles). I think I walk faster when I walk outside but I have problems staying on if I go much faster on the treadmill.

I walk at a 10.0 incline (the highest my treadmill will go) at a speed around 3.5 for 50 minutes. It's a great workout, but I didn't start out doing that it has taken me time to get to that point. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing and then be willing to push yourself a little at a time.

I do 4.0 speed at no incline and then sometimes will alternate jogging at 4.5 every 5 minutes. I read a book called "escape your shape" that suggested for my body type that an incline on the treadmill was not ideal so I stopped using it. I may start up again alternating my workouts with a slight incline - our treadmill has a program that has a weightloss feature that automatically adds an incline every couple of minutes. Kind of cool but it's a steep incline though!

Oh shoot Laurie- wish we would have talked about this at the meet last weekend. I am going to check out that book. I walk almost everyday and try to walk outdoors on Sat for 6 miles (call it my Sat 6).

I try to vary my incline and speed on the mill. I have some routines that Ohmom has given me (think she got them from Shape magazine)- would post if anyone interested.

I generally try for at least a 15 min mile (4.0 speed) but sometimes can beat that time and then I am feeling "good" if I can do that!!

I am up to 3.0 Incline and 3.5 speed, and I try increase intervals about every two weeks, so that I don't overextend my abilities.
