Hi: We are driving to wdw during the hurricane season. If there is advance notice of a hurricane going to florida, where should we stop to wait out the hurricane?

We are coming from Ontario Canada, and will be going I 79/I77 thru north carolina, south carolina, and then I 95 georgia, then florida?

Well...you could always stop at Savannah, Georgia and maybe do a little tour of their historical district. I hear it's beautiful.

Hi: Do the hurricanes go as far as savannah georgia? Just covering all bases.

Yes they do. It all depends where it is making landfall. Anywhere along the ocean would be vulnerable. BUT if a hurricane is forcast to hit Florida, Georgia may get rain, or may not. Just depends on the weather pattern. When Ivan hit last year in Florida, we had severe flooding here in PA and areas were declared a disaster zone. People are still recovering from the damage.
I know it's hard after last year, but try not to worry about it too much about.

Of course it depends on your timing and soooo much more, but the safest place may actually be at WDW. Their utilities are all underground and they coped very well last year. I arrived the day after one hurricane and while Orlando looked rough, you couldn't tell much had happened at WDW.

Has anyone been in wdw during a hurricane. Do you still have electrical power for the airconditioning in the hotel rooms?

We were there last year for the last hurricane and left the day it hit with no problem. I had a co-worker who stayed. He said it was no big deal. He had 2 rooms and one had some water leakage under the front door (it faced the storm) and the other had none. He stocked up on a little food since the restaurants closed during the storm and he sat in the room and watched tv all day. The park was open the next day I believe with a few ride delays. I wouldn't worry about driving in during a storm. I live in Columbia,SC and it rarily gets bad on the east coast especially inland. Most storms seem to be going up eastern Georgia so 95 should be fine. If it was me I would plan on going 95, if a storm actually hits the east coast you could hit 20 to Atlanta then go down 75 to Orlando. It will add 5-6 hours to your trip. If you want to stop, Charleston and Savannah are nice historic towns worth at least a days stop to let the storm pass.
