Travellers Cheques

Stupid question

I decied to purchase a large chunk of my spending money in TC $. Only problem is that I dont know where / how to cash them. A friend told me that they can be used as currency (and if so do I need my passport / id with me) but I would like somebody to confirm.

Most restaurants and shops in and around WDW, I drive and US accept TC's as cash. they give you change in cash dollars also.

many places are wary of $100 and above cheques particularly for small purchases. I have only been asked for ID a couple of times when making large purchases in dept stores but I find it useful and easier to cary my photocard driving licence in case.

Just to confirm we've never had any problems paying by travellers cheques. Either in Disney or at the shops/outlets etc. Have shown passport for i.d a couple of times.

We always split T chqs & I sign half & my DH signs the other half.

I took $100 travellers cheques and had absolutely no problems using them anywhere - from supermarkets to McDonalds to Disney. I was not asked for ID at all!

We would buy whatever we were buying and get the change in dollars. Obviously we we conscious not to use the TC's for a very small bill which may have left the shop with no change!

Hi there Andy, Lou & Meg

When we stopped at the All Stars Sports, we were allowed to cash up to $200 a day of our travellers cheques. Sometimes they asked for I.D. (so I carried my photo drivers licence with me).

We have never had any problems using travellers cheques no matter where we've been in Florida. Indeed we only take about $200 in cash and the rest in TC's. For your own peace of mind ask whoever you get your cheques from to give them to you in $20s and $50s. Always works for us!!
