Traveling with grandparents, ideas outside the parks?

We have a group of nine adults flying in two days before our Disney Cruise in July. Four are grandparents, and the July heat doesn't make wandering around the parks an attractive option for us.

Any ideas on things we can do to make this trip special for the grandparents, without buying park tickets? We are staying at Animal Kingdom Jambo house in a DVC Grand Villa.

TIA!

It depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, fishing, RPDE, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour

We just did this in March 2013 at Kidani Village in a Grand Villa. The grandparents with us are very active so I think that made a difference for us. We went to a dinner at Hoop-Dee-Doo and watched fireworks and the eclectic boat parade at the beach. We loved roaming around the boardwalk area and watching the "street performers". Rent out a pontoon boat and see the fireworks from the boat.

Com_op_2000 is right that it depends what you want. Good luck - enjoy the cruise.
