We're heading to WDW next month to celebrate DD's 5th bday. She also has a peanut allergy. I have been in touch with food service to discusss our ADRs, but I am also wondering about safe snacks for her. Particulary ice cream/ice cream bars, chocolate chip cookies, that sort of thing. Anyone know what, if anything, is safe? Thanks!

Hi Mama of Two Princesses,
Disney is a wonderful place for children who have food allergies. There is an article about it in this months Allergic Living Magazine.

They have begun to carry the "Divvies" line. This is an allergy friendly cookie and snack line free of milk, egg, peanuts, & tree nuts. They are so delicious they were written about in Gourmet Magazine this past summer.

I believe they will be carried at the Bakery on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom and other places. They make also make safe candy and gourmet popcorn, kettlecorn, caramel corn and chocolate caramel corn.

Disney is also carrying a nut-free brownie but I dont recall the brand name. I think it contains egg.

You could email Disney to ask about the other brand and about where the Divvies line is carried.

They have frozen fruit bars (usually Strawberry) on most of their icecream carts throughout the park that are safe for nut allergies. They also have a variety of popsicles that you can find at different locations .

Hope that helps.

Take care,
Gina

Hi,
We just got back. I don't have any advice but just wanted to share that at every TS restaurant we were asked if there was anyone with food allergies in our party so they seemed to be proactive about that. I assumed from the question that they would try to cater to someone who had special dietary needs.

I remember they wouldn't let my ds have shots/sprinkles/jimmies when we were at Chef Mickey's because there could be nuts in it.

He is allergic to dairy too but he did have the fruit bars from the carts.

He had a pretzel from Germany (which I still want to make at home).

He had various Italian ices from Epcot & thru out the World.

The Itsakadoozie (sp?) frozen bars are safe.

I would avoid Boma, there's a lot of peanut items on the menu, and my experience there was abysmal as far as being accomodated for my allergies.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Boma. Oddly, of all the places I've eaten (at disney) Boma accommodated my allergies best. A chef walked the line with me, talked about all ingredients and also brought me separate servings (for items that might have been contaminated by other guests due to buffet organization AND of items that they often served but that weren't available at the moment). Whereas at some other restaurants I was simply told, "okay you can have ______ only" despite my having called in advance to tell them I was coming.

Perhaps it was about the day we were there? And/or the fact that peanut allergies seem to be more expected. (I can eat peanuts and my allergies are rare.)

We too had a great experience at Boma.

We are the family from hell because my DH has a shellfish allergy and my DS has peanut, dairy and sesame.

The chef was amazing and even cooked up special chicken for my son and brought out some special "soy" ice cream for desert for him.

He also walked us through the buffet and told us everything we could and could not have.

This is why we travel to Disney every year because they do a great job with allergies.

As a side note, we spent a day at Universal not knowing what to expect and they are terrible with allergies....beware. They did not know any of the ingredients and we literally had to go out of th epark to City Walk to eat.
