I am taking my nephew who will be 3 to WDW in Oct. I was wondering if anyone had advice for me on what I may need other then a letter from his Mom. I have taken my own children many times in and out of the country and have always been asked if I had a letter for them to leave on the plane with me ( I am remarried and my last name is not the same) . I have been a little worried about what I may need and not having it . I will have a letter for medical care and his insurance card but do you think I will need much else?

TIA
Wishing everyone many Disney Days :earsgirl:

Make sure that the meds he might be allergic to is included in his medical care record.

I'm curious, did you have to show proof that you're their mother? I'm about to be remarried and I think I'd have a fit if they ask me if my child was mine...I understand....but I'd still be miffed!!!:p What did you have to do?

we plan our trips months in advance. with the pre planning it allows us to pay for our trips in advance.

My credit union has a vacation club account. I have money deducted from each pay check and it goes into our club account. If you don't have to think about saving the money it seems alot less painful. the club account lets you make 4 withdrawls a year without any penalties.

since the money never goes into our general checking account we dont have to worry about spending it on something else

Baloo , you have to have their Birth Certificate with them my oldest is 16 and had to show her TXDL to leave with me . They then read the Cert and want to know if the father knows they are being removed from the State ( this may only be Texas) . You then show your letter from your Ex Husband that must be noterized that says he knows where they will be, who they will be with , and the day they are to be returned to the state the live in . And all is well you get on the plane and dont think about it untill you go to get back on the plane home. My concern is I am not his Mother and there is no way to prove relation other then the letter from the Mom . Anyway I hope that makes sense when reading it sorry .

Mad4Mickey, it's been a few years since I've traveled with my niece and nephews (without their mothers) and, thus, things may have changed. In the summer of '99, I took four of my nephews to WDW. Three of them share my last name. I was never stopped or questioned. They ranged from 4 years old to 8 years old. I'm not sure if this is at all helpful since you have been questioned when travelling with your own children. I would suspect that if you have a copy of the child's birth certificate, a notarized letter from the child's mother (identifying herself as his mother, identifying your relationship with her and the child, and her permission for you to travel with the child to Orlando (inclusive of the dates that you will be with him), you should be okay.

Have a great time; i know he will!

Mad4Mickey: I have thought about this a lot as well since I am taking my almost 3 yo neice to WDW in Oct.

One suggestion that I read a while back was to take an older picture of the two of you. Then, even if the child is going nuts for some reason -- screaming "I want my Mommy. You're not my Mommy! Take me back to my Mommy" sort of temper tantrum -- you will have something to evidence that you have a long term relationship with the child and are not a kidnapper. I doubt you would ever need it, but it might add to your peace of mind.

Have a wonderful trip with your nephew! -- Suzanne

I am taking my 15 year old sister to WDW for the first time in December. We had a trip booked for WDW 2 years ago but it was cancelled. At that time I drafted a letter stating that I had permission from our parents to take her, where we were going, the dates of travel, and that I had permission to seek medical attention if necessary, and I had that letter notarized with my parents signatures. I don't know how well it would have worked but I felt better knowing that I had that document with me. I plan to do the same thing this time.
