Hi Everyone, Were traveling to Fort Wilderness in 5 days and I can't decide if I should upgrade my GPS. I currently have a Garmin but I'm thinking up upgrading it to the Rand McNally 7710. Do any of you out there own one. What are your opinions good or bad about the unit. Is it even worth upgrading? We have traveled to the Fort 3 other times and the Garmin has done it's job but I like some of the features on the RM unit. Also do you think the 7" screen is to big for a pick up. I have a GMC 3500 and a fifth wheel camper. Should I stick to the 5" screen?

...and it has also been sufficient. Don't know about the other unit. I would be interested in the answers to your questions also.

I have a Garmin and have updated the maps twice since I've had it. I have no reason to go to any other kind.

I don't put alot of faith in a GPS. We use the road atlas and use the gps when we get close to our destination. It's easy for us as we our on vaca and use major highways . Leaving in 38 days should be at the Fort in 40. Also found the Good Sam trip routing service to be very accurate and helpfull.

I agree with jeepfreak that GPS's can provide some inaccurate or misleading info. I use one enroute, but before going I use Mapquest online to develop a route. Then I see how well Garmin does, or how many times it has to re-calculate. I once wound up on a one lane dirt county road in west TX following GPS, but it eventually got me back where I needed to be.

I've used my garmin the last 5 trips to the Fort, near had an issue. I'm cheap and havent even updated the maps. We went to denver last august, i took it for the rental car. It worked great, even got me to the top of pikes peak.

We also have Garmin and keep our maps updated, but I also print out the routing from Good Sam for a basic overview . Garmin is very helpful for getting around Orlando and finding restaurants and gas. I wouldn't spend the money for a new one unless it's that you just want it--don't think you really need it.
