Hi all

I've been looking at the hotels near to Manchester Airport, and I notice that quite a few of them are around 4-5 miles away from the airport, with a shuttle transfer (leaving the car parked at hotel) does anyone know roughly how long we should allow for the journey? Our flight goes at 11 so we are hoping to have time for breakfast etc before we go depending on how long it takes to get there.

I'm looking at the Holiday Inn at the moment, but if anyone has any other recommendations please shout out!

thanks everyone

We use the Radisson SAS. It costs a little more than the holiday in but you can use the sky link and just stroll across to the terminal. There are deals to be found for advance booking and also sometimes a bit of cashback on Quidco or Topcashback.

If you stay at one of the other hotels I would take the time I WANT to arrive at the check in desk and add at least an hour on to be safe. SOmetimes the shuttles collect from more than one hotel so it isn't always that quick.

bewleys and the crowne plaza are next to each other, they're easy strolling distance to terminal 3 but its a bit further to the other terminals. It is however CLOSER than long stay parking! We stayed at the crowne plaza at easter, it was half the price of the radisson, included parking for the week and was about £70. The shuttle took about 5 mins and was their own dedicated shuttle no other hotels used it. The Radisson would be my ideal but cost was a factor. I wasn't disappointed by the crowne plaza.

You will find that the marriott, travelodge etc all are further out and will take longer.

weve stayed at the Crown Plaza and that took about 10 mins too. :)

I have not stayed at Bewleys but been at a meeting there, it's a lovely hotel and I was able to walk to the terminal :)

I would probably ring and ask the hotel how long the journey takes. It's obviously something they do numerous times a day so they will have it down to a fine art.

I'm also another who loves the Radisson. As already said it is a little more expensive than some of the other hotels but for convenience it can't be beat.

That's what I was concerned about, we flew from Heathrow to Antigua in 2005 and the shuttle stopped a couple of times, I can't actually remember how long it took though as I was 8 weeks pregnant and feeling as sick as a dog so didn't take very much notice!

I think Virgin fly from Terminal 2? Do you know how far it is to there from the Crowne Plaza?

Sounds good! Did you book directly? Or through a broker?

I think I will ring and see what they say, otherwise I will try the Crowne Plaza I think!

Thanks everyone for your help! :goodvibes

As you can see from the image below it is probably within walking distance - but that is without luggage etc. We have walked to the Crowne Plaza from the Radisson and it took less than 10 minutes but I don't think I would fancy it on the morning of check-in.
They will definately have a courtesy bus or something so I would make use of that.

yes we were flying with virgin, what they did do which I was happy about, was had one shuttle going to terminal 2 and one going to 1&3, as I say it took about 5 minutes door to door. we were on the 10.20 flight - they advised you to be in reception 30 mins before you wanted to be at the terminal, we waited about 5 mins for the shuttle and it took 5 mins to get there. Having said that, we dropped out bags at about 7.15am and I was able to grab the extra leg room seats!!

All in all I'd recommend for the price. I appreciate the Radisson is closer, but on my date it was about £70 more, and as I'm usually on a budget it was £70 I couldn't justify! The bar was really nice for a snack the night before too! And the restaurant looked lovely.

we booked directly with Crown plaza, they use their own shuttles and usually have one waiting outside to pick people up.
The only negative i would say is on the return journey they seem to take a while to pick you up from the airport.

Thanks for that Kenny, I doubt we will walk, mainly due to the fact that we will be towing car seats and buggies! Could you imagine that! :rotfl:

That's it, I can't justify the additional money either, I would rather save as much as I can!

:scared1::scared1:Return journey???? That horrible day hasn't even crossed my mind yet! ;)

We are staying at the Crowne Plaza next month, hopefully we will have a good experience!

they were there waiting for us when we got out of the terminal ... I think its just luck!

I am also thinking of staying at the crowne plaza the night before as they have a free direct shuttle bus.does anyone know how regular the service is?
we get into manchester airport about 7pm ish and will will return to the airport in the morning at 6ish.Booking on line direct with them seems to be the best price. premier inn is cheaper but you pay for a non direct bus which takes longer

Just give them a ring. Do it during normal business hours if you can so you get the permanent staff on and ask roughly what the schedule it. I booked Premier Inn at Glasgow for this year and made several phone calls to them about various things before booking.

We leave next week, and are staying at the Hilton. We got a really good deal by paying up front about 10 months ago (taking a chance on losing the money if we cancelled). We have paid £70 for a family room including breakfast.
As for car parking. We got a discount code that has enabled us to pay less than the long stay rate, but we are in the car park directly outside the arrivals hall:cool1: so when we come back it will be a short stroll.

Previously we have used the Marriott, it is a nice hotel and the pool was fantastic, it only takes 5-10 mins on the shuttle bus, although we did have to wait quite a while for it to turn up when we came home. Apparenty by we were just unlucky that 10 groups on our flight had all used the same hotel:sad2:
