Traveling Alone, and Safety

I just found out my last day at the parks, I'll be flying solo. I'm not at all concerned about being at Disney alone. In fact I think it will be fun.

However, I AM concerned about getting to the airport by myself as a single girl. What do you think is safest? A taxi kind of weirds me out, no one would know I'm accounted for. Should I rent a towncar? Is the Disneyland Express my safest bet? I've taken it before and it was OK, but I was also travelling with friends.

Those of you who have travelled alone before, what is your advice? Am I worrying about nothing?

I took SuperShuttle by myself with no issues. Inexpensive and convenient, and a well-known company. There were other passengers already in the van when I got in, but I would have felt safe even if there weren't.

I use Uber quite a bit as a single woman, mainly for the feeling of safety. (Traditional Uber, that is, where you get the towncar; not their rideshare versions with regular Joes...)

There's a paper trail that includes pictures, and the drivers are easily traced. Plus they tend to be professionals; I've always felt completely safe and secure with every Uber driver. They also tend to drive more carefully than your average cabbie, since the (usually expensive) car is theirs. I've yet to have a bad experience and I've used them dozens of times.

It's more expensive than a taxi, but for me the peace of mind is worth it.

I travel in SoCal all the time for business, usually alone, and I've never really been concerned. I mean I wouldn't advertise you are alone, and always walk with confidence and only have as much stuff with you that you can control. But transportation choice isn't much of a concern to me unless we're talking about public transportation at night (which isn't really an option in Anaheim).

I think any of the shuttles, a taxi, Uuber, or a town car will be fine.

I've been to Disneyland alone many times. I always take SuperShuttle. There are always other people in there if you choose the shared ride option.

:) You have nothing to worry about! I've done one solo trip (and have a second one coming up), along with a BFF-and-me-only trip (so, two women together on their own), without a single issue. My DH, and BFF's DH, are freakishly concerned about our safety, and they worried more about the walk to/from the hotel than the airport transportation! (I won't argue with their fear... who am I to say, "no" to staying across the street!)

As far as who to go with for transportation to/from the airport, BFF and I did a taxi to/from SNA. If we are doing LAX, I do the DLRE, because, while it takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r., it's cheaper than a taxi.

Coming from Australia, I'll be arriving at LAX solo and departing from SNA solo for the next part of my trip. I plan to book SuperShuttle, and am not at all concerned about my safety in transit. I think any of the reputable shuttle companies should be perfectly fine.

I took a solo trip this past March and felt fine taking a taxi back to SNA.

What airport?

If taking a taxi, be on your cellphone the first part of the trip. Talk to the friend/relative on the other end letting them know. DH has done this in nervous-making countries when he has to take a taxi.

That said, a shuttle like Karmel Shuttle is generally my preferred way to go. Depends on the airport, though!

I'm taking a towncar from the airport, then one of the taxis out front of the hotel back.

Personally I feel uncomfortable in taxis on my own (even at home), so that's my main reason for booking a shuttle. I imagine a taxi from LAX would be prohibitively expensive too! However, if you like the idea of a taxi it should be fine from SNA. I like Bumbershoot's idea of calling someone on your cell and discussing where you are, where you're going, and the fact that you're currently in a taxi :thumbsup2

I did have concerns about getting a taxi solo on my Nov/13 trip to DL, but did it anyway. I never had any problems with the taxi drivers, even though I had one that the driver felt a little sketchy to me. That driver didn't give me any grief, but his driving was something to be desired. I took the taxi to and from SNA, as well as Knotts without any problems. I would just keep to myself on the ride in the taxi, and if you get a chatty driver don't give out any personal info. I personally found it was cheaper to take a taxi than hire private transportation. And I won't hesitate to take a taxi on one of my solo trips again.

If LAX or SNA, I would do DRE to be around the maximum number of people so you'll feel safer. For LGB I'd do Karmel Shuttle or SuperShuttle.
