Does anyone know if they accept travelers checks anywhere at WDW?? I would assume so, but I just want to check!!

My parents have used US travelers checks at various stores in WDW and cashed them at the front desks of where we would be staying for acutal cash. So it's safe to assume they are accepted in WDW.

Yep - you can use them anywhere they accept any other form of payment. Although I don't think I have used one at a cart as I didnt want to look like a yogi cashing a $50 or $100 check for a $2.50 mickey bar :lmao:

Traveler's cheques can be used throughout WDW. They may, however, request ID. I know! I know! The entire idea of countesigning the cheques is to eliminate the ID. It's been inconsistent at WDW--sometimes I asked, sometimes I'm not. :confused3

Some carts may not be equipped with sufficient change for a small purchase with a large TC.

People still use Travelers Cheques? How old school!!! :)

On our first trip to WDW, I used traveler's checks and what a pain in the behind they were! You have to sign them in front of a castmember and you have to present a photo ID. I swore I'd never use them again.

I use my debit card or cash for all of my transactions at WDW. Much easier!

Coming from the UK we always bring US travellers checks (we spell it cheques) with us. No problem spending them just like dollar bills - photo ID is not a problem either as we have credit card sized photo driving licences.

Ditto Mickeystoontown - they are accepted everywhere at WDW, but they can be a hassle. I stopped using them several years ago and just use a credit or debit card now - may still need ID, but probably need to have ID with you everywhere these days anyway. The paper travelers checks and the signing, cashing and carrying the change thereafter isn't worth it to me anymore, but to each his/her own.....

I like to use them because I hate carrying cash and I don't like credit cards/debit cards a whole lot - especially with how much identity theft is out there. Plus, if my debit card got stolen while at WDW, I would then have no access to my money. However, with travelers checks, they're the same as cash, and it might be a hassle to have to spend an extra 2 seconds to sign your name on them, but at least if they got stolen, I could have new ones very quickly!!

I know for sure you can not use them at Walmart. My last trip in January I was told they do not take Travelers Checks anymore.:cutie:

I think it depends if the Cast Members ask for photo ID. I can't remember them asking for id when using them in stores. However the odd time when my parents went to change them for real cash at the front desk at the Contemporary or Polynesian, sometimes they would ask them for ID and other times they would not.

I guess I'm old school, but I beleive that travewlers checks are the only way to go. Credit/Debit cards IMO are too easy to use or lose, and identy theft is far to easy with them. You can "see" howmuch money you have left with the checks.

Travelers' Checks/Cheques EQUAL cash.

While it may be a bit of a hassle to sign one in the presence of the merchant or merchant's representative and show ID, it's ultimately MUCH more secure than a debit card (plus, you only spend as much as you have in TCs :))

Some years ago, I lost most of my Travelers Checks in Nashville. My hotel was within walking distance of an American Express office, so I went there to get them replaced. Yeah, I know - bit of a hassle, but...

Anyway, fast-forward several years. The hotel where I'd stayed was either being renovated or torn down. Somebody found my Travelers Checks. Apparently, I'd overestimated how many I'd used - AmEx sent me $40!

Try THAT with a lost debit card - not gonna happen :)

Everywhere!!

Not at Walmart!!!!!!!!:scared:

We have never had a problem using them and haven't been asked for ID either. We try to use them only in high traffic areas so we can be sure they will have enough change to give us.
