Hi All!
Just need a quick opinion.
We will be taking a friends daughter to WDW next week.
We don't have children of our own, so we decided to share the magic with her!
I'm concerned something may happen (illness etc.) during the trip that I may not be prepared for.
What would you do to protect yourself during a situation like this?
I am going to take a copy of her fathers health insurance card.
Do you think anything else would be necessary?
Opinions from others who have dealt with this type of situation would be greatly appreciated.
I know I am probably worrying too much, but I would rather be prepared than surprised!

I've taken friends of my kids on vacation many times. My lawyer friend advised me to always take a notarized letter from the parent(s) stating that if the need arises I had permission to get medical treatment for their child. Thankfully I've never had to use it.

Someone posted a trip report about their experiences traveling with thieigrandchild. The emergency room would not treat him (he was sick but not life threating) since the permission letter to obtain medical treatment was not noterized.

You need a copy of the insurance card and her social security number may be required (the last 2 tines we visited the ER with my DD they wanted her SSn not mine).

I would want a noterized letter allowing you to act on behalf of parents in seeking medical treatment. I would also ask for an emergency contact list (her Dr. and dentist) and parents.
You will also want a copy of any perscriptions she takes.
If she has an unusual medical history or drug allergies make sure the parents document this.

99% of the time you will not need anything. But of you need it you will really need it.
