Travel time ...

I don't know which forum this should be posted on, but I posted it here in hopes someone can help.

We are moving from the northeast to Houston, Texas. Our trip is in July and we are planning on driving. Is there anyone out there from the Houston area who has driven, and if so, how long did it take you? I know I can go to Mapquest.com and plot it out, but I don't think that is too realistic. (We drove in Nov. from NJ and mapquest made the trip seem longer than it actually was).

Try the Transportation Board - there are some very knowledgable people over there who know the best routes to take and the best stops to make. Good luck with your move.

I don't have all of our data handy, but we had our GPS with us when we drove from Austin last year, so I could get some specifics to you if you want them.

We drove for a short while on a Friday night and didn't quite make it to Houston for our first night. On Saturday we left the hotel around 8:00 and drove all day with short stops for gas, food, etc. We wanted to stop again near Tallahassee. When we got to that point (maybe 11pm or so), there were no hotels with vacancies. There were two huge college football games that day in the area and we had to keep driving. I think we finally found a room around 1 am (central) which was 2am (eastern)!

On Sunday, after visiting a local church, having a quick lunch and doing some shopping at Walmart, we started our last leg. We arrived around 3:00 or so.

According to yahoo maps or mapquest, our total distance was 1137.4 miles and the approximate travel time was 17 hours 29 min. Like I said, I could get the specifics from the GPS file if dh hasn't deleted the info.

You can probably count on a full day of travel and then a fairly short day of travel depending on how you spilt it up.
