Hello Disboard members.
I am writing you, hoping someone out there can help me. My brother and sister in law are due any day now to have their baby. They received many wonderful gifts such as strollers, pack-n-plays... etc. But my mother (grandma) wanted to have a back up of each to keep at her house for babysitting duties. So my brother doesn't have to lug their stuff to the house.
Is there anyone out there that has either that they want to part with or sell? For a boy, and we are looking for the stroller that has the carseat and base. She doesn't want to buy new, as it won't be used that much.
Thank you all
Heather.
PS Feel free to pm me.

Have you checked Craigslist?

Also, unless the baby is going to be at your moms every day, she really won't need to have a ton of stuff, maybe a pack-n-play and a swing. Babies actually need a lot less than Babies R Us would like you to think they need.

the thing with used is carseats "expire". they now put a date on them that the carseat is no longer safe to use after, because of wear and tear. also, it may not be safe if it's been in an accident.

is your mom babysitting full-time?

i babysit my niece. she is 12 weeks old, my kids are 8 and 10, i have no baby items at my house except for a small box of baby toys. so far, i haven't needed anything else. i use her carseat, strap it in with the seat belt. i lay a blanket on the floor for her. if she wants to sit up, i put the handle back on the carseat and put her in that.

other things to consider... she HATES the bouncy chair and swing. loves her playmat with the toys that hang down and a baby mirror.

i wouldn't rush out to buy things. especially if she's not watching her all the time. SIL's MIL went out and got a carseat (expired), high chair, swing, playpen, bouncy seat.... as of yet, baby hasn't used any of them.

I'd suggest just getting a stroller frame instead of a travel system. The infant car seat just clips into it and it's nice and light and compact to store. They're about $60 new and can be bought for next to nothing on Craigslist or at a consignment store. Then your sister can drop off the baby in his carseat and your mom will be able to clip his carseat into the frame, and can just use the seat in her car without a base (it's just as safe without the base, as long as it's properly installed) or your mom can just buy a second base for the carseat your brother and sister already have.

Travel system strollers tend to be pretty poor strollers - heavy and bulky. The frame is much lighter and easier and by the time the baby outgrows his infant seat and needs a new stroller, he'll be ready for a nice umbrella stroller or a similar lightweight stroller.
