Just wondering if I should get the travel insurance......going on 4 day Bahama cruise July 17-21. Anyone every get delayed or held out at sea due to weather conditions in July? pirate: :earboy2:

You'll get lots of opinions regarding this. If you do decide to get it, do a comparison of coverage at www.insuremytrip.com . :)

Anything could happen to make you miss your cruise...an accident, illness, death in the family, airline strike. It's a small price to pay in ensure that you wont lose your entire cruise. We have always gotten it & actually had to use it when MIL had to cancel a little over a month out due to needing an additional round of chemo treatments. They didn't want to rebook for another date & it was past the point of a full refund from DCL.

Bad weather and high seas can happen anytime but July should be okay weather-wise. Hot and humid! Mid-August through September can be iffy here in FL for tropical storms and hurricanes. My concern is lost luggage and heaven-forbid the need for medical care/medevac in a foreign land where our health insurance doesn't cover care. The need for an air-lift to the states could put a family into financial ruin. We saved over $160. for travel insurance through insuremytrip.com compared to Disney's plan on a 7-day Magic cruise for 3 and we were able to customize the plan to our needs.

DCL's insurance is pricey.....I definitely recommend trip insurance, but from a reputable provider....

If you booked through a TA, ask whom they recommend....

My feeling is that if you have a medical problem and might get sick, it should be taken out.

Aside from medical, it provides coverage for loss of luggage, interruption of many parts of your trip, as stated in the other posts here. :sunny:

We just got a check for $2450 from the DCL insurance. Our son came down with a stomach virus on the first day of our 7-night cruise in December. He was put in isolation for 48 hours. They reimbursed us for our entire family of three for 3 days missed on the cruise. I always wondered if it was worth it. Now, I'm a true believer.

thank you all for your imput on this......I can now see it is worth the insurance just for peace of mind.
Thank you all again :earsgirl:

Glad to hear that the insurance company came thru for you Jenny!

what insurance companies did some of you book through? How much did it cost, how many members are in your family and what was the length of your vacation?

Thanks!

Every family/individual might is different - sometimes we pay with DVC points and sometimes cash and sometimes half and half. The members in our family are not the same as other families and each vacation's length is different. Insurance is not on members in the family but it is per individual.

You need to call the company that was listed in your papers and speak with them for your questions on the amount they charge.

I used Access America directly, not thru DCL. They have a AAA Family plan that has the kids covered for free. :) You have to call them to get this, can't work on the website. They base the cost for the adults on the total cost of your trip.
