I am going on DCL/Eastern CAribeean Cruise
APril 30,2005

Do i need travel insurance or is it a scam??

I am taking my 78 year oldmother, who is an excellent health

IS is true, is she or I, got sick. We might have trouble having Medicare pay her medical bills while outside the UNITED States
or might have trouble having Blue cross and Blue shield pay my medical bills
while outside the United States.

If the above is true.

What travel insurance, would you recommend to me.

I want it to cover all of this

#1 The medical bills, that would not be covered by MEDICARE for my mother or
BLUE CROSS AND BLUE Shield for me
if we got sick outside of United states.

#2. The Travel Costs, that would not be covered by MEdicare for My mother
or
Blue cross and Blue shield for me
if we got sick outside of United States.

#3. Disney Cruise Line/full payment in case of health issures with my mother
and I
or ACT OF GOD

#4. THe Hampton INN HOTEL Room, near MCO
that i will stay in the night before my DCL EAstern Caribeean Cruise
in case of an act of god

#5. THe Delta Airlines $100 penalty per person, in case of an act of god

THank you in advance!!

Travel insurance is more than just health insurance. The brochures that I saw all indicated that "most" health insurances do not cover you if you are out the the US and I know this to be absolutely false. (I work in the medical field). However, most insurances WILL NOT pay to transport you back to the US if you should fall ill or suffer some sort of accident. Risking medical care in a "3rd world" medical facility is something you would have to consider for yourself.

But, travel insurance covers MUCH MORE than healthcare costs. It will cover if your flight is cancelled or delayed. It will cover if you get ill and cannot go on the cruise/flight. It will pay to get "essentials" if your luggage is lost etc. You should call a travel agent who can answer all your questions.

We DID get travel insurance. We will be travelling to Florida from Colorado at the end of May and while the weather in Colorado at that time of year is generally beautiful, the year my son was born, we brought him home from the hospital on June 1st and got 6 inches of snow on June 2nd! MANY flights out of Denver were delayed that day!

Oh, BTW, we went with AccessAmerica through our AAA TA. It was less expensive than the Disney insurance and it was much more comprehensive.

Even though your relative is in excellent health, anything can happen between now, and even during, the cruise.

We never did take it before, but for the last 5 cruises we have taken insurance...I feel much more secure and for the amount it costs, to me, well worth it....especially since it reimbursed us for our delayed cruise due to hurricane Jeanne hitting Florida....our cruise was delayed for 2 days and we needed a hotel (stayed at the Polynesian in WDW) all meals and to keep the rental car 2 extra days....the insurance reimbursed us for all that.
