Looking for a bit of help from all you knowledgeable people out there. We are looking for travel insurance for our usual 4 week trip next June/July however our circumstances have changed and we now need to declare prostate cancer, high blood pressure (caused by the cancer medication), prolapsed discs and sciatica for DH. Previously we have had the back problem however the addition of the cancer (which is being treated very successfully at the moment with an excellent prognosis) would appear to have given the insurance companies the jitters! When I had read previous threads in the summer many people were recommending Eurotunnel however they no longer provide travel insurance outwith Europe. So far quotes from those prepared to consider us have ranged from £1045 to £2038:needless to say just a tad more than I would like to pay! Anyone know of anything that may well be more reasonable? We haven't booked flights etc as yet. Wouldn't be daft enough to head off across the pond without the necessary cover in place. Ironically the only one of us to have ever claimed on our travel insurance in the past would be me (upset tum a couple of years ago). :goodvibes

not too sure about how having to declare things like cancer will change things but are you with NATWEST BANK? When I lived in London I had a Natwest Bank account and worldwide travel insurance was included as an optional extra on one of their accounts. I think I just paid a very small extra fee to upgrade my bank account from the standard to the plus to get the travel insurance. It might be worth checking out

Glad to hear your husbands treatment is going well. You might find the above link useful. It says that Macmillan keep an updated list of insurance companies you might look into. Good luck.

Many thanks. These are the links I tried to get the quotes I've had so far. I still have to try BIBA (M&S recommended them as well), however as they are only available by phone during office hours and I'm not I'll have to wait for the Christmas hols to get in touch with them.

I am with M&S Bank and had travel insurance with my account. They covered our holiday this summer at no extra charge as the cancer had been diagnosed after we had booked. Unfortunately they (and all the other bank accounts I have enquired about) will no longer cover us for the cancer etc as we would be booking a holiday in the knowledge of what is considered a serious illness. Some will offer to cover us for our holiday excluding the pre existing medical complaints however this is a risk I wouldn't contemplate. All it would take would be for DH to trip on a kerb and have back issues that the company could then claim was exacerbated as a result of his pre-existing condition and so not covered.

Thanks for your quick responses folks. Greatly appreciated.

You might find the first year is expensive - DHs Grandad has prostate cancer and had to pay a lot the first time he went back to the states (has a Daughter and her family there) after it was diagnosed however I know it has come down over the years back to a more sensible level and he is now is his 80s. I want to say it was over £1000 first time and was around £500 last year.

Thanks for your help. Must say I wondered about this. I also wondered if I went for a quote a bit later on if it might improve. At the moment hospital attendances for the past year appear high, although are now down to visiting every three months. In a few months time the number of visits will be fewer and radiotherapy will be past rather than current. Don't suppose you know who your DHs Grandad has had insurance with?

Have you tried explorer travel who offered very good price for pre-existing medical conditions - good luck

Glad to hear the outlook is positive. If you can, wait and try got insurance in a few months time then book a late deal? I pay extra for my medical issues (breathing - tracheal stenosis) and had a lot of major surgery earlier this year (4 ops in total including 18 night stretch in hospital) . I waited until all my operations were over then rang and was happy with the price to top up my annual policy (£70 ish on top of annual family policy that is with our nationwide account)
