Have been doing a few on-line enquiries for our summer trip and noticed that premiums have rocked since last year.
For 2011 with Columbus and DD's infrequent asthma declared as a medical condition we were £160. Quote for 2012 is coming in at £430.

Looked at AA which comes out at £260. However they are underwritten by AXA and I recall that folk had trouble with them during the last ash cloud crisis .

Looking for recommendations for best deals and also who to avoid?

Each condition is treated differently, DW's mild high blood pressure affects quotes from some companies, not from others. You just have to try as many as you can. M&S are very reputeable, supposed to be good with claims but their premium doubled for us last year so moved to Columbus, give them a try you never know.
Insurance is probably the least enjoyable part of trip planning for me, I don't trust any of them.

My Hubbie has Asthma and we have Insurance with Insure and Go - On top of the normal premium we got charged about £8.00 - If it is well controlled and he has has no more than 2 meds for it, not been hospitalised recently etc then cover for the add condition is normally pretty cheap.

They also have an "add on" which is called travel disruption which i believe covers for ash clouds etc.

As with all policies there are terms and conditions but what insurance doesnt. :confused3

I was with Insure & Go when we were stuck with ashcloud, they wouldn't pay out for anyone. Maybe they have changed but not sure I can trust them again.

I agree Wayne it is the inconsistency with the quotes and worries over having to actually claim that draws my suspicion.

Thanks. Will have a look at this and do some dummy quotes :thumbsup2

We don't have any medical issues so ours was cheaper, but I just bought mine with AA via quidco. They do a kids free deal so for our two week holiday it cost £60 - 20% quidco cashback totalling £48! Bargain :D

That is a good deal. I could not get a quote via quidco and for the 5 of us our AA quote was £260.
Mind you when I heard that it was with AXA insurance I was less than impressed since they let down many customer due to the previous ash cloud disruptions.

We use atlas direct and get annual for about 50 for the family

Last year they covered the ash as long as we it wasnt known when we took out policy

Really? I wonder why ours was so cheap, we're a 5 as well but the 3 kids were free?

Was this the case with a lot of insurance companies though? I remember the uproar because hardly anyone was paying up due to the reason?

in the past we have used Tesco and Virgin money. My ds has asthma but it is controlled and they covered him with no extra premium. I never had to claim though so can't tell you how good they were

We went through top dog this year - just had to pay a top up for me as I have a breathing condition (trachael stenosis).

Been with post office in the past.

Always have fun sorting annual insurance - (DH says we are a family of demics!)
